Nice numbers, but no defense.
He is not D12 but he is not a bad defender. I mean after watching Boozer all those years, Booz makes AJ look like an elite defender. Plus he gets you 1.7 blocks. I mean he does not have the fastest feet on the planet but he plays good position defense of staying between his man and the basket and he is big and strong. Provides good rotation help, he does not recover well from the help. While not on the level of Favors or D12, he is serviceable on defense. Jazz fans are not yelling "Ole!" any more, like when Boozer was here.
I can think of many defenders at the 5 that are worse than AJ. But I can think of a lot that are better. He is a pretty average one on one defender. Above average help defender. All I know is, he has been a night and day difference between him and Boozer. We much prefer him to Boozer in every way.
And if you offered Andy to the any Jazz fan for AJ straight up, they would not stop laughing for a week. I mean he is 2 years old and a third the player and who really has his best years behind him. Andy is a guy that really relies on his hustle and quickness to make things happen. At the age of 30, that stuff really goes south fast.
Which is one of the good things about AJ. He plays a very mental game, using smarts and his size to get things done, which means at age 32 he should be close to the same guy he is at age 27.
I think you highly under value AJ and really over value Andy. Which is fine. Most fans do, they think the world of their guys and not so much guys they don't see a lot.
I personally think AJ gets the Cavs into the playoffs next year. I also think, no one you get at number 4 is going to get you 20 points and 10 rebounds a night next year. I also thought the trade was lop sided for the Cavs. But you don't think so. That's fine, we all have our opinions. And I just wanted yours. I was a little shocked, OK, blown away, you thought so little of it.
The "Spanish Fly" came and went.
