The Los Angeles Lakers' bid to re-sign free-agent forward Jordan Hill will have to withstand the available salary-cap space of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Hill, 24, plans to travel to Minneapolis on Monday to discuss a deal with the Timberwolves management, league sources said. The T'wolves could have as much as $20 million in cap space to spend on free agents.
Minnesota also has a strong interest in trying to make a trade for Lakers star Pau Gasol.
The Lakers can offer Hill a four-year deal worth nearly $17 million, but the Wolves – who are also pursuing free-agent guard Brandon Roy – have the ability to make a bigger offer. After a sluggish start with the Lakers, Hill had several strong playoff performances.
The Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat and Orlando Magic also have interest in Hill, who was traded to the Lakers from Houston for Derek Fisher and a first-round pick in March.
