No, but it would be a first to take 7-8 years to come into his own.

Whoever mentioned the name Kobe? I never once implied that it would take him to get into Kobe-level place in the game for the Nets to actually improve. So yes, reading is fundamental. And straw-man arguments are not fundamental.

Personally- I am hoping that a change of scenery and playing with a top 5 PG is enough motivation for Joe Johnson to return to playing at a higher level.

This is how I see it. I just don't see how he can just get worse with a PG that makes others around him better.

Except Gerald Green is an exception who has already added to his game, AFTER he went down to the D-League. And who said anything about hanging hopes on Gerald Green? He'd be simply a nice bench piece to have.

And I don't bash Brooks. I've been against this trade ever since I've known about it, but there's nothing that can be done about it, other than to accept it now. And it's really not that bad of a situation (assuming Deron and Lopez are re-signed), because it gives us a pretty good playoffs team with top 3 potential in the East IMO. It's a far more exciting team than what we have had for the last 3 years.

Im A Knicks fan that comes in peace..NJ couldnt sit around waiting for Dwight..Joe Johnson maybe overpaid but he's a top 4or5 SG that can also play the 3 and score the basketball. Deron is anywhere from #1-5 depending how u rank the pgs... Add in Crash, who's a great hustle man, along with a healthy Lopez, and Marshon and company...The Nets made a powermove...Championships are tough to come by and never guaranteed. When managment makes a team Real Contenders thats all you can ask for. Orlando in no way wanted to trade Dwight to Orlando, so i mean hey. I respect what NJ is doing.

If Deron signs, then you guys have arguably top 10 players in their respective positions at the 1-2-3 spot. Lopez and potentially Humphries is a decent frontcourt as well. Johnson isn't so far off his prime yet I think. Maybe he could still be capable of pulling out games like this once in a while..

So you ignore everything else the player does? That makes a lot of sense. So you think Deandre Jordan is equal to lopez then... I mean Jordan is the better rebounder and blocks more shots...

Brook Lopez is more than serviceable in my opinion. I believe we can put him in the "good" category, especially when you consider he isn't a finished product yet.

He's going to be a Top 5 Center in the next few years. That's not saying much in this era of big men, but just look at the stats beyond raw rebound and blocked shot numbers.

In 2009 he ranked 6th at his position in PER, 3rd in Value Added and 3rd in Estimated Wins Added
In 2010 he ranked 7th at his position in PER, 4th in Value Added and 4th in Estimated Wins Added

Offensively he's already an elite low post scorer, which is hard to find in today's NBA. Even good teams like Miami, OKC and Boston don't have that element at the 4/5 position.

When it comes to rebounding, it's an area that he needs to improve on. He was actually a good offensive rebounder up until Kris Humphries came along. The effort just hasn't been the same, but with a renewed emphasis I believe that part of his game will improve.

Defensively his size alone will alter shots and lead to him blocking a decent amount of shots but let's call a spade a spade: He's slow footed, therefore his achilles is switching on the pick and roll. That's never going to change. You can't teach speed, but you can improve body positioning and decision making. He hangs back a lot because he's slow and too hesitant at times when he does choose to close out on a jumper or cut off penetration. That indecision also effects the rebound numbers because he ends up in no man's land sometimes.

We need to put a defensive PF next to him to anchor the defense. It won't be Brook because

(A.) Teams are gonna constantly force him to make decisions on the pick and roll
(B.) He isn't athletic enough to consistently get over to clean up other people's mistakes or cut off penetration

But overall, with good coaching, more experience and an emphasis on improving his weaknesses, he'll be a top big man for years. Surrounding him with good players and putting him in a win-now atmosphere will only help him because that will force his game to improve.

If we got Dwight first then maybe (if possible) went for JJ I would be happy, but this is just to please the casual fan. Yes we would be a playoff team with Deron/JJ/Wallace/Brook but there's no way in hell are we contenders, we're just going to be stuck in the same place as Indiana.

i dont know what you were doing a month ago.... but id have been very happy if it was the ents playing theheat in the playoffs instead of praying my 22-win team would retain is free agent all-star PG in the offseason.

He's a good player, but if you expect him to be more than a spot starter/solid 7th man then you are being way too optimistic.

Don't forget that he was out of the league a few months ago.

There's no point Jeff trying to convince any other fans besides our own that Brook is actually good. They get fixated on a certain stats/aspect and they berate any player with it. Look at how RealGM is with Lebron

Current MLE, sure, the future MLE will be the tax payer MLE, which is substantially smaller.

For what it's worth I don't think that you guys should use your full MLE or your BAE this year.

Say Dwight doesn't get traded (yet) but you get to keep Deron and Humphries (because you want to trade him?)

is a generously rounded down 64M meaning that after the full MLE and the BAET you'd be at 71M and could only add 3M more in salary (provided cap numbers stay the same, even if they rise, the raise won't be that high probably) after having 7 players.

And not only would that mean adding 5 - 8 players with absolute min contracts (even the min for vets with more than 3 years experience would be too expensive at that point) but you couldn't do any trade that adds salary going forward meaning if you want to trade for Howard Orlando would actually have to take on Money...
