Might just as well add Drew Gordon (undrafted) for SL. We do need Mack to back up Wall unless we add a guy, and I don't see the room unless we amnesty blatche.

Hoopalotta wrote:You know, tactically, the Wizards and the Jazz are basically doing to same thing this offseason. The Jazz used their TPE on Mo Williams (expiring @ $8.5 million) and then traded an expiring Devin Harris for two years of Marvelous (about an extra $7.5 million on the books in the 2013-2014 season). That's basically a miniature version of the Okafor/Ariza trade with them spending an extra $16 million on perimeter rent-a-vets.
The difference is that the Jazz have all of their vets expiring and have piles of cap space, but it's very similar as far as what each team is trying to do this season: placeholders on the cap to create a functional developmental environment for their younger players.

I read NJ is done trying to get Howard and that it would be him to Dallas or LAL instead. I am so sick of him. I hope wherever he lands the team fails. He is the new LeBron.
So any word on Nick and McGee and what my happen with them ?

Sources: The Nets & Magic are discussing a trade that would send Dwight Howard to Brooklyn for Brook Lopez, Kris Humphies, Marshon Brooks and picks.
Nets' picks that would be traded to Orlando would be 2013, 2015 and 2017, source says....
I think that has the makings of a deal to finally move Howard. The players and picks above sound like a very good deal for the Magic.
The Nets will be fielding Joe Johnson and Deron Williams -- two over-rated players -- along w/ Dwight Howard. What will Howard say and do when they don't contend for a title I wonder?
And I also wonder why anyone would hire Billy King as a team's GM.

Those could make this deal look really good for the Magic. Also I think they get enough pieces to field a respectable(possible play-offs) team. I wonder if there might be a possiblity of trading with the Magic to get a shooter. The Wizards might have the cap space to trade for Reddick if Blatche is amnestied. Another option might be a blockbuster Justin Harper for Shelvin Mack.

I do think JJ is overrated. I do not think the Nets with all those players would set the world on fire.
However, if Brooklyn opens up in their new location with Dwight Howard on the roster they will sell a lot of tickets and they will generate a lot of revenue on merchandising. They want Howard for $ more than even to just be competitive, IMO. He is the big name.

Apparently Bynum is the latest target, which makes a lot of sense for all parties.
If Orlando sends Howard to NJ, I wonder if they add a Hedo for Wallace swap. I think the salaries would be pretty much match up. Also I think Wallace and Ryan Anderson could compliment each other well at the forward spots.

I love watching you swing back and forth on this. Next season, we may need an entire thread just for you to debate yourself over the merits and failures of Javale McGee and his hot momma.

The stretch provision allows teams to spread out the cap hit of a waived player over twice the remaining term + one year.
So if a guy has 2 years at $10M/yr remaining, he can be "stretched" (waived), and instead of having a $10M cap hit for 2 years, you get a $4M cap hit for 5 yrs.
It's only good on deals signed after the new CBA.
So even though Fields deal with TOR has him getting a reported $9.9M in his third year, I bet there's a decent chance he is waived and TOR has 3 years of $3.3M in dead money.

I don't think so. The Stretch Provision doesn't sound like a very good deal to me. It technically doesn't save any money or any salary cap space. It just reshuffles it a bit. The only time I expect it to be used is if a team is on a championship run and has to pull out all the stops to keep the core together for an extra year or two.
That Landry Fields contract is wack though. $20M for 3 years for a wing who posts a PER of 12 while playing modestly above-average D?
