Teletovic Signed for the $3.09m MLE -DH trade still possible

Post#1 » by Nanogeek » Wed Jul 4, 2012 9:04 pm

Coon just confirmed:

LarryCoon: Okay, since I've been cagey about it all day, but now the news is spilling -- yes, the Nets got Teletovic for the $3.09M non-taxpayer MLE.

This means the Nets can clearly still trade for Howard now.

Nice. Lose the BAE, but can now sign whatever veteran the team wants.

This is wonderful news.

It's not even just about a Howard trade, that's another thing people glanced over.

We couldn't have gone over the "hard cap" to get anyone had he signed for full MLE, not even vet min ring chaser types.

And any trade would have been extremely difficult during the season.

I mean say Dwight is traded to a different team right now, but during the season a great buy low trade came up like Nene for the Hump(assuming he was resigned for say 7 a year flat for 3 years) and Brooks and a LLE guy to match salary, we couldn't even do it.

Or even say it was Hump and a 1st for Varejao?

Still can't.

This is fantastic.

LOL, the reporters are wrong AGAIN!

Hollinger has taken every shot to say that the Nets can't do this or did this very dumb thing, and yet the news keeps coming out that , we're actually doing smart things for a change.

If wonder if Hollinger and Revolutionistt are friends...some butthurt NJ fans that hate NYC.

I don't want to trade for Howard but it would be great if we did just because it would be hilarious to see everyone doubting the Nets yet again be wrong...yet again.

I am a little confused on this...so by getting this guy to sign for 3 million a season instead of 5...how does that help with dwight going to nets??? Can someone pls give me the run down on this new rule???

Thank You

If Teletovic was signed for the full MLE, the Nets would be barred from going over 74 million dollars this season. But now, with giving him only the tax-payer MLE, the Nets are not constricted by the 74 million limit. In other words, the Nets can take back as much salary as they can get under the 125% rule in a trade and can sign any veteran minimum they want to fill out the roster.

Ok, but why would there be a hard cap if they signed him to full mid level...and not a hard cap by him signing mini? That is what i don't get.

You only get a full MLE if you're more or less not going to be above the luxury tax including all your players, whether signings, trades, draft or players already on the team.

So if you're under the tax and opt to sign someone to full MLE, you are then vowing you will not go into the tax by more then $4 million, essentially instituting a hard tax, called an apron.

The exact number $74.3 million may actually be incorrect specifically though, the cap and tax will not be officially set until July tenth.

All that matters is you can't go more than $4 million over whatever the tax is set at.

Got ya..thanks bro. So say they gave him full mid then they still would have to stay under 74 million even if resigning Nets own FA...like Lopez etc...

This is great news that I thought was coming and to celebrate watch the best youtube video on Teletovic I've found yet. Some of his dunks are complete posters and his range is insane. This could be the best bit of business King does all off season because he just signed a very good player on a 3 year contract for $3m.

Think about that for a second, he earns less than Petro, Farmar, Morrow and loads of complete scrubs and I bet we look back and think, what a great deal.

Mirza Teletovic!!!

What will probably happen now is the Nets will assemble a collection of players in addition to Lopez and Humphries so they can take back both Howard and Turkoglu. However, the Magic won't want Humphries so a third team will likely be involved with Humphries going to the third team and that third team sending assets the Magic want to the Magic.

I'm struggling to think of a third team that has assets the Magic might want and would want to give those assets up to get Humphries. Any thoughts?

So it's definitely a 3-year deal? If so, great news!

This is basically where the offer stands at the minute as far as im concerned from anything I've read. We need a 3rd team to take hump off our hands for us which would let us take Hedo & Howard (I actually believe it will be J Richardson because he is owed more money than Hedo).

So while we keep trying to work out a deal with a 3rd team, we're setting up a deal to get IIyasova in a S&T with Hump then vet mins the rest of the way and revisit Howard in Dec.

Here's an idea, why not see if the Bucks are interested in taking Hump in the Howard deal?

IIyasova has been made a big Euro offer so the Bucks will prob lose him anyway so replace him with Hump??
