That's how it appears to me. They are stockpiling to have depth at all positions to handle injuries. I don't see why this indicates not matching for Lin. They probably considered Felton the best form of insurance at PG among remaining free agents.

He certainly is not as impactful or diverse in skills as Lin and I cannot see how the organization would consider Felton a better choice with comparable upside. It only comes down to money, but on talent Felton is still better as a backup and probably will at times play the 2 guard next to whomever is running the point. Same can be said for Lin playing with the other PGs.

Even with this news, I would still be very surprised if Lin is not a Knick. There is not good reason not to match. We'd be a very stupid franchise if we don't and he reaches all-star status elsewhere (and fukoff trolls I don't need your idiotic replies that Felton is better).

Nah. Fatton can't play off the ball. Lin is not a SG either. Kidd can. But we also brought the Argentinian as well.

Add to that all these contracts add up to a catastrophic amount in year 3.

Lin is gone.

I am sad.

Again, we have one healthy SG that will also play minutes at the 3. There are no good SGs available in our price range. We signed Felton as an alternative to signing a terrible SG to play meaningful minutes.

Assuming JR plays 10 minutes a night at the 3, that means we need to fill about 30 minutes a night at the 2. We have nobody to play those minutes... There are 75-80 minutes a night to divy up between Lin, Kidd and Felton. Kidd is probably a 20 minute a night guy.

If Shumpert comes back and is ready to play regular minutes at some point... whoever is playing the worst goes to the bench or loses a lot of minutes. Odds are, Shump isnt ready to do that until the season after the one coming up, at which time we can make a trade of the odd man out.

So what precedent is there for a team not matching a guy who goes 19/9 in his second season?

Felton would be a good backup in a video game, but not in real life. I don't see him accepting a role off the bench, unless he starts with Lin in the backcourt?

Anyway, Felton is going to play great here, so having a quality starting PG, at his prime (28 years old) for 4.5m$/y, ir GREAt.

Steal?

Dude had zero offers until this BS.

i think that is other teams' mistakes. he had a bad season, but he has shown himself to be a good player in the past.

a lot of players had rough seasons last year. it was hard because of the lock-out. shooting was down throughout the league. look at amar'e and melo.

you cant expect this mucho of fans like him, I mean, they have like fish memory or something... I just don't get it.

Felton, out of Nash, Deron and maybe... Kidd? just maybe, was the BEST PG Free Agent this year, he is the better player between George Hill, Lin, Dragic and all of them, he had the pedigree, he played great recently, and he is solid, he is still young, and he has experience, he can do a lot of things on the court, guys like Lin, Dragic... are unidimensional, and there were teams that fell for the hype, the hype for 30 **** games, good luck for them, right now PHoenix and Houston look to me as top3 bottom teams on the West, bottom 5 in the entire league...

We're not playing for Lin, or for Lin development, I don't even have any faith on im being better than a good back-up Guard, but whatever... we're playing to win it all, and with these kind of moves, we're moving close to it, right now, only Heat in the East are far if we play well, and Woodson figures it out, Boston is in the same level, Indiana and Brooklyn would be next ones, Chicago the odd-man out without Rose.

Lin can't pay without the ball, without being THE MAN, same problem Dragic has, and if they'd figure it out, maybe in the future they're quality starters for a contending team, but rgiht now, PG like that, ruins team offense, well in Lin case, defense too, soo... why in HELL would we keep him? also he's way too expensive and he comes from a hard injury...

Royce Young: So it's certainly still within reason the Knicks could match on Lin regardless of the Felton trade. now

KC Johnson: Sounds like Lin offer sheet made it to Knicks. If they take full 3 days to decide, Asik's offer sheet likely signed on Wednesday. 1 minute ago

Alex Kennedy: The Knicks may still match Jeremy Lin's offer. The Raymond Felton acquisition was unexpected, but Lin returning is still a possibility. 3 minutes ago

LOL... Backtracking.

You know what's funny? Felton WANTS to be here. He never wanted to leave.

Lin was afraid to come back for the playoffs b/c he didn't want to risk injury as he was coming up on RFA and big $$$.

I really think Kidd/Lin will be the backcourt and Felton/Prigioni will be the backup PGs with JR Smith as the 6th man from SG.

Lets wait until the decision on Lin is made official fellas.

this

Agreed, and I hope it didn't take 92 pages for this point to be made.

Yep lin can shoot, has really nice first step and can create for others. wouldn't be your avg SG.

How come this was HIS decision??? Knicks never provided him an offer, and they ASKED him to seek his market value, and the Rockets is the only one to make him an offer so he had to accept. How come it was his decision??? It was Knicks'. From the beginning to the end!
