Why is everyone jumping off a building about this? Am I the only one who's crazy enough to think that we are going to match Lin still?

It's easier for people to believe Lin whispered this secret confidential information into Morey's ear during negotiations. Because that's clearly the more likely situation.

We love giving away them picks don't we? Sad the fans forgive management for this all the time. They've gotten conditioned to us giving away picks.

According to Felton, the Knicks told him that they're not matching the Rockets offer to Lin.

Doesn't say that. Come on.

[quote="polarbears815"][quote="Red Vines"][quote="[GR]"][quote="JimmyDolan"]The Knicks were bitter because they told Lin the club would match the original offer and Lin apparently shared the information with the Rockets, who decided to raise it. The free agency started off with acrimony on July 1` when the Knicks decided to let Lin set his market value instead of making him an offer.

Agreed; what a weasel move.[quote]
If that's true, I can understand why they're pissed.[quote]
Same here. Would totally understand them being angry if true. But weren't people also reporting that the Knicks would match? So even if Lin did tell the Rockets that, weren't the Knicks also saying they'd match all along?
[quote]
I think they meant $1B if it was the first offer, but for him to go back to the rockets and have them change the contract pissed them off.

We're now flooded with guards. You can't overlook that.

Tommy Beer: If Houston is willing to sign him to that type of $$, Lin obviously has solid value league-wide. Losing an asset for nothing is bad business 2 minutes ago
Tommy Beer: Even if NY thought Lin wasn't good at basketball, letting him walk now makes no sense. Match the offer and trade him down the road (cont). 4 minutes ago

So even in what was probably the best 54-game sample of his career, Felton's offense was better when he wasn't in the game.
Wasn't some metric like that used against Melo as well?

Didn't Woodson pretty much come out and say they were going to match and that Lin was his starting PG? What secret info did Lin give the Rox. The head coach of the Knicks was spouting this very secretive info to the papers not too long ago.

We have one healthy SG.. you are overlooking that. To me, we decided to sign a GOOD PG with the understanding one or more of our PGs will play a lot of SG, rather than sign a BAD SG.

Re: *Felton traded to the Knicks. Knicks not matching Lin?
No way to match. Finances simply don't work due to the new CBA and the harsh luxury tax payments it brings.
Ken Berger wrote:
Look at it this way: Even if the league did unspeakably well in the next two seasons and the luxury tax line rose from its current level of $70.3 million to $80 million in '14-'15, every player the Knicks added beyond those five would count multiples of their salaries with the tax. Even if the Knicks could add seven more players at a total salary of $10 million -- not likely -- the total cost for those players would be $25.3 million with the new tax rates factored in.

"However, Felton told WPDE-TV, the ABC affiliate in Myrtle Beach, that the Knicks were no longer pursuing Lin."

Doubt it -- if so, the sample of games used would have to be very narrow. Melo has a high ORTg and performs reasonably well based on advanced stats.
