I'm just telling the truth... How I see it.
I still like Melo... but I saw things in his game I never have seen before and I lived in Denver and went to a ton of nuggets games.
I said the same things as soon as Miami eliminated us... He had a really bad year except for the last month of the regular season and the first 8 or 10 games.
He tightened up after he got back from injury... he was choking the ball and coming up short on jumpers... rushing... forcing the issue... things he never has done. You could tell all the "can you and Lin play together" stuff got to him. Then in the Miami series... go back and watch the games... he went right back to looking tight... forcing... looking nervous. I'd never seen him like that in Denver.
I always thought if there was one guy in the NBA who could handle the bright lights... or the media scrutiny it would be him... maybe he can handle it next year. But too see it when you thought you'd never see it kind of gets you down on the guy... especially when you're going out of your way to defend him.
Interesting, interesting, very interesting. Agree pretty much with what you said especially on the forcing shots, letting the Lin talk get to him & doing it again in the Heat series. There are a couple factors as to why Melo played so poorly in that series but I do remember saying to myself that he's looking a bit tight, he's forcing the issue, etc, etc. To counter that but not go too in-depth, he kinda does have to force the issue especially against a team like Miami & the way we were playing.
As far as getting down on Melo I can completely understand where you're coming from because I've done it numerous times when he played in Denver & here in NY but I dunno I guess optimism keeps me from saying things negatively about him when there's a chance to say something negative. I always like to see things play out & look at it from two points of views instead of instant-reacting.
I believe this year will be a Melo we've never seen before but I also acknowledge that either this year or next year when he's right around the corner from 30, will be put up or shut up for Mel. It's already bad that people think of him as an afterthought for winning a title, time to shut everybody up including me.
