How do you know that he did? It could have been the other way around. It could have been Houston that up'd their offer after hearing Woodson in the media say they would match and it was a sure thing. There was no need for Lin to renegotiate, if Houston did it of their own free will. And if Houston up'd their offer, you can't exactly say, "no thanks, I'll take the previous lower offer." If he did that, Houston would remove their offer altogether, saying that Lin had no intention of signing with them and wasting their time. When Houston presented the new higher offer, thanks the the Knicks brass running their mouth on tv, the lower offer was no longer on the table for Lin to sign.

They'll believe any "source" as long as its anti-Lin[/quotoe]

And why have Melo and Amar'e? You would have a win-now team with no shot at winning now.

You are going absolutely nowhere -- and fast -- with Ray as the quarterback. It's not happening. Get real. That team is clearly limited in its ceiling.

So fine, if you dump Lin -- have a firesale and sell off your assets.

It just makes us look like bigger losers than we really are to have older players and be preparing for a playoff run with effectively no chance to go anywhere.

And if you don't believe me, just look at Felton's last two playoff performances. They were both abysmal.

Ray could play great in November and December and look like a world beater and it is a guaranteed thing that he will be much worse come playoff time. He was horrible with the Bobcats and horrible with the Nuggets -- because he's not that talented and not that good.

KG where I think you are wrong is that you are overvalueing lin impact on this team. Can he be good...sure. Will he be a better player than Felton over the next 3 years...you can make a case for that as well. But Lin and Felton are secondary pieces. This chances at a championship are on Melo and Amare. Amare is the big piece to return to form. We have a lot of depth this year. Right now we have 3 capable PG's on the roster (Felton, Kidd, Pablo)...so we are better at PG this year than going into the playoffs. We have a better bench.

We are a better team than last year. But Lin was going to be a secondary piece...could he be a good secondary piece sure, but this isn't the end all be all here.

With Carmelo sources aren't necessary, he posts the stuff directly to his twitter.

Have to disagree with you there. MSG will be a morgue. There will be very little excitement at the Garden -- more like abject depression. And Lin coming back to torch us will just be another swift kick in the pants.

Melo and Felton will get abused by the fans, I'm telling you.

as long as we're winning it won't be. and that houston team aint torching anyone.

defjux21 wrote:This was already discussed. Why would Lin try to renegotiate Houston's offer sheet when Houston was the ONLY team to even give him an offer? It's not like there was a bidding war going on for Lin. He had no leverage to renegotiate at all. There really wasn't that much of a market for him since other GM's figured the Knicks would indeed match any offer. Morey just decided to call the bluff and thus throw a wrench in the Knicks' plans.

Morey CANT change the offer sheet WITHOUT LIN'S CONSENT. SEE LIN knew it was happening and LIN could have easily INFORMED the knicks it was happening BUT HE DID NOT. The team might have made different offers to camby, kidd, novak, IF they had known LIN was getting his offer sheet changed.

It has to be negotiated. Probably the reason the offer sheet was delayed two days while they discussed it. I would bet LIN's handlers were looking for the whole enchilada 4 yrs 40 mil (5,5,15,15) and morey was like no way.

I mean if i ran a company and my really good employee came to me with an offer that another company wanted to hire him for 300k when I was paying him 100k and i said cool ill match that you do good work. Then he goes back to that company and he comes back saying they now offered him 500k.

Im saying 'SEE YA!"

Well, then you would soon go out of business, firing an employee that obviously has enough business sense to get the best deal possible for himself.

Im thinking if the Knicks havent matched by this morning... and they match this afternoon or later tonight it will be out of spite..

I think the bridge is already burned and Lin would be trade bait... only question would be if Knicks play him or have him sit on the bench....

I think you have to play him... or lose his trade value...

Can anyone confirm this "strech provision" Evan Roberts keeps saying? From what I understand, Dolan can strech luxary tax payment on that 3rd year an addional 3 years.

I wish you were a casino, KG, because I'd like to lay money on several of the props you just established.

MSG Will Be A Morgue: +200 - Put me down for $200

There Will Be Very Little Excitement At The Garden: +300 - Put me down for $500

Lin Will Come Back To Torch Us: -300 - Wouldn't touch this with a 10 ft pole

I think with the wait its obvious the Knicks will match. Knicks are holding Houston hostage for 2 days for messing with them. Houston is holding a wad of cash and free agents are being signed and they can't make any moves till this is resolved.

"With the wait?" If they weren't matching time would still pass.

It doesn't benefit the Knicks to do anything, match or not match, before the last minute.

It indicates nothing.

There is NO REASON AT ALL to not match Lin, now that the stretch provision can be used for that 3rd year.

Knicks are WAY over the cap and Lin will only make $5million a season for the next 2 years and if he is a flop, Knicks can waive him after year 2 and "strecth" the cap hit over the next 3 years.

There is no risk at all to the Knicks and ZERO affect on our cap and ability to maneuver for players, during the next 2 years.

None.

This is an internal issue. It could be Dolan is butthurt, Melo doesnt want Lin or maybe even Lin is telling the Knicks he doesnt want them. We dont know.

How late in the game did it go before we said we weren't matching Fields? Down to the last minute or...?

I don't think there's even a specific "not-match" action they could take. It would just be a matter of waiting until the time was up and not doing anything.
