Did Yunel crash in ATL before AA got him? Talent level is what AA wants, and I'm sure he'll research Hanley's off-field personality/hobbies/etc. as much as he can.

Top talents out of favor with their team is what AA does.

Heres the thing. Yunels worst year in his career is still better than either of the last 2 seasons by Hanley. We would be buying much lower than Yunel. Yunel NEVER had under 2 fWAR in his career, while Hanley has done that the last 2 years consecutive.

Only reason we should get him is if we can get him on a pure salary dump, and give up little to no prospects.

Since we have heard about the rumoured player already, it's not likely to happen.

If scouts were watching yesterday's game then it probably isn't Hanley they're interested in.

Escobars 2 worst years of his career are still better than the 2 most recent years from Hanley.

Hes good but nothing to give too much up for. Id rather get pitching.

This has been said twice now, but you're kind of bending those stats so they favor your point.

For 1, this season isn't over yet. So the '2 most recent years' is one where Ramirez missed 70 games due to injury (hampering his play when he was on the roster perhaps?) and then this year.

Before we got Yunel, he played in 75 games for ATL and was hitting .238 with 0 HR, 19 RBI, 28 RS. Way worse than Hanley has played so far this year (.249/14/47/49). So if it's the fact he hates playing 3B which has created chemistry problems like ATL had a couple years ago, you have to base the potential of the trade off raw talent which I think Hanley has more of. (offensively at least). Looking at their stats on baseball reference it isn't even close who's been a better hitter. Escobar is 29 while Ramirez is 28 so their age/career length is quite similar. Only thing Yunel is better at is defense, and he doesn't strike out as much.

Then the fact that so far this year Hanley is batting .009 less than Escobar, but has 8 more HR, 14 more RBI, 11 more SB and 0.020 better OBP.

I'm not saying we get him and he plays like the MVP candidate he was a couple seasons ago, but I think it's a bold move with potential of working out. How much money he makes doesnt matter to me if it doesnt matter to ownership. I'd still rather get a good pitcher or even Upton, but I'm happy that it's not just the usual suspects trying to buy former all-stars.

Oh yeah, thanks for reminding me! Another reason not to get Ramirez. Hes always injured.

LOL ummm what? Sitting half of one season counts as 'always injured'? He's no Cal Ripkin but he's played 85-95% of his games in 7 out of 8 seasons. If that's your point then guys like Jose Bautista, Dustin Pedroira, Troy Turlowitski, Matt Kemp, Josh Hamilton, Roy Halladay... or anyone ever put on the DL must be 'always injured' too.

Haha...Until right now I didn't realize he had been sitting after punching a fan and his hand hand got infected lol. I suppose that isn't a positive thing for a player to do and would have been a better point to make on why they shouldn't go after him. Still, I think that a change of scenery will make him pick up his play and if he resembles the player who made 4 straight all star teams, I'd take him over Escobar in a heartbeat. But if he or Yunel moved to 2B and bumped Kelly Johnson.... that would be wicked.

I wouldn't mind Hanley, but it's just so hard to imagine Rogers taking on such a large contract. I mean, he'd be making more than Bautista (yearly).

Hanley makes so much that he might be available for pretty much nothing. But honestly it SS or 3B for him... he's just two slow footed for 2B (same with Esco really).

He just doesn't seem to fit AA's model thou. He maybe a slight upgrade on Esco offensively, but do you want to pay what three times the money for that? Unless it's a substantial upgrade what is the point?

However if he is a piece of a three-team trade that makes sense. Like AA trading for Jackson in order to fulfil what the Cards wanted for Rasmus.

In the end I see the Red Sox likely landing Hanley if they can convince someone to take some of their salary burden off in another way. They have a need at SS. I wonder if they can: convince someone to take Crawford (not bloody likely); or finally decide to dump Lester for some top pitching prospects; that they will have the room away from he tax to easily bring in Hanley.

David Cooper is not in Las Vegas lineup tonight. Apparently tweaked hamstring last night (he left in sixth), aims to be back tomorrow
