His agent and himself were actually quoted as wanting to return this season but all of a sudden he is returning to school for the year.
That's why I proposed signing him this season to a two year vet min deal with the 2nd year being a team option. So if he returns healthy next season we'd have his early bird rights at the end of next season to enable us to keep a hold of Oden through holding his rights rather than signing him, showcasing him and not being able to match any offer he receives if he performs well.
Could you imagine if we traded for Howard per deadline and had Oden returning to the NBA after a full season of complete rest to build up his knees. We'd only need Oden for 10mins a night to come on, defend and rebound hard with potential for Oden to be of huge value.
If things go to plan throughout this season and we end up with Howard I could see Kirilenko opting out of his 2nd year with Timberwolves to join us along with Bogdanovic joining from Turkey. My dream lineup if everything goes well this year for next season would be:
Williams / Watson / Duhon
Johnson / J Richardson / Bogdanovic
Wallace / Kirilenko / Shengelia / Q Richardson
Teletovic / Davis
Howard / Oden
Trade Lopez, Hump, Brooks, Taylor, Evans and Stackhouse for Howard, J Richardson, Davis, Q Richardson and Duhon.
Add any vet min ring chasers to the roster.
Now as far fetched as that lineup might seem, it's really just a Howard trade plus Kirilenko opting out of his deal to sign for MMLE and a vet min Oden. It's nice to dream though.
Stay strong Mr Howard, Brooklyn is waiting.
PS did anyone else notice we don't play the Knicks after mid Jan and therefore won't play them in any game where Howard would play versus them if we were to trade for him?
