Magic, armed with $17 million exception after Howard deal, hope to acquire more draft picks from teams shipping players, trying to avoid tax

Al Harrington wants to make home in Orlando after Howard trade, but likely will be dealt this season or next summer in rebuild plan

Does TPE count against the cap?

It does make the most sense that at the trade deadline we will be facilitators. The TPE really is a good asset with nice potential if the right situation presents itself. If there is a player that can be part of your future you could consider taking on the salary but it's most likely to be traded for first rounders within the next 2 drafts. I think we all basically agree on that.

TPE will be more valuable with the new labor deal in tha NBA, teams will need to shed salary to get under the cap. Who has a potential high lottery pick and needs to move a bad contract?

Jiwol wrote:TPE we have might be used in only one proper way: trading for some dead weight on horrible contract, who's out of the books during the summer of 2014 and taking a 1st round pick with it. If Henny fails to do so before our TPE expires - he should be beheaded.

The TPE can also be used to absorb a young player (not just a high priced veteran). I believe this is how the Thunder acquired Eric Maynor from Utah. Perhaps the Clippers will want to unload Bledsoe this way...

Dude you are either:
High, Trolling, Butt hurt, in need of therapy, or some combination/all the above.

I never liked the last reported Houston deal. I don't like the current deal we made on paper but we got a lot of future assets. Let's see what all those players they really offered us end up doing in the next 3 years and see how good or bad we did.

Not happy we traded with LA either. But I do not think the Houston deal was better at all.

FYI

That one lottery pick from Toronto is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> than the (3) the Magic just got

and,

Lamb/Jones >>>>> Harkless/Vujacic/Afflalo/Harrington and adding all that salary to the cap.

I would just take all that Houston youth over a few vets and crappy 1st rounders.

The problem is we weren't getting any of the things you mentioned except the Toronto pick (Which might not be that great)!

Well, I would take a 8-13 pick in the lottery over (3) Future picks in the 20-30 range that are all lottery protected. Heck, Detroit got Drummond with the 9th pick. But, that is just me and probably most GM's in the league. Regardless, I am interested to see what happens with that TPE.

What about the players? We weren't getting Lamb or Jones or DM. We took the best deal possible considering the circumstances.

Devos took the best deal, which was cash from the NBA and sponsors. The true best deal is patience and loyalty to your fans. That did not happen. And, the Houston deal was still a better deal. The Magic could have retooled in 2013 with Houston, but put themselves in a longer rebuild program to deal with the Lakers. Devos got paid, that is what happened.
