Tell us how you really feel Bassman...
Yes, it sends a message to your supporters and fans that the son of the VP of basketball operations is on the team, as well as the boyfriend of the chairman's daughter. Yes, they occupy the 14 and 15 spot on the bench. And I'll even give that Higgins has worked hard. But hard work isn't enough. It reeks of cronyism and nepotism and tells your fans that you aren't really serious about making your team better, because everybody knows they have limited ceilings. It makes the Bobcats look foolish, amateur, and a two-bit operation. The Spurs, Thunder, or Lakers would never have this. Management will complain how the community won't support a professional basketball team, however, the way they run their business is reflective in this; it is not run like a professional basketball team at the highest level, and the fans see that. So why should Charlotte support them as such? If they think that this doesn't matter, then they are fooling themselves. It all matters.
If you want the support of the community, the sellouts, the merch sales, the unwavering support of the community, then you have to get rid of all semblance that this is about you. And just having Cory Higgins and Scoop Jardine makes it about MJ, Rod Higgins, and the entire management staff. The Spurs make the team about winning, about the community, and try to put a winner out there for their fans to support. I can't even name the owner of the Spurs. That's why he has the support, because it's about the team, the fans, and the community.
That being said, I don't think this is on Cho. His hands are tied by his two direct supervisors. I support the Bobcats, and hope they get it straight, but this is the epitome of their issues right now.
