I've been lurking this site for maybe 7 yrs and I notice that Wizards fans are always hard on their players. New york, Miami, Chicago will never dog out their main players as much as we do. Saw few people dogging Bradley Beal for his play last night. Why don't we appreciate what we have? Blaming management is something else but to have regrets one game into the season is another thing. I feel like we should support our team regardless...or just maybe find another team to root for. IMO Wall is one of the better PG's in this league, and he's a difference maker even with all his flaws, but people are acting like his situation wasn't worse than ever other top PG that we've seen in awhile. Sorry if this sounds like venting but we really gotta do better. I feel like last night, Wall would of willed us to a win. can't wait till next month.

DC having Cowboys fans is nothing new. The Skins/Cowboys rivalry, the Bush(s) administration, and DC being a huge mixing pot are all major reasons.

BUT I do think DC sports fans are generally pretty bad. Outside football, no one gives a damn about any of the teams until they make the playoffs. With that said, if your looking to bash our fan base, RealGM is the last place to do so. Some of the posters here have been active for almost a decade, enduring loosing seasons and constant disappointment.

I have been a fan of the Bullets/Wizards since 1976 when I moved to this area from Detroit and have been a season ticket holder for 16 years. I really don't root for any other professional team in this area since I am still a Detroit Lions fan and I don't particularly like baseball or hockey. So, the Wizards are pretty much it for me in this town.

Although I sometimes gripe when people harp on the same things over and over again, I would rather have a bunch of fans that voice their opinion and are critical at times than fans that are "all roses" or don't speak up. At least the fans that are critical and voice their opinion show they care and are invested in this team. Besides, many of the long term fans of this team that are on this board have earned the right to be grumpy old men.

On the large numbers of Cowboy fans in the DMV, I always assumed that the biggest factor is a hangover effect of anti-Redskin sentiment among African American fans dating from the George Preston Marshall era. The highest concentration of Cowboy car flags that I see around here is out on Branch Avenue. But I only moved here in the early 90s so maybe something else is going on.

In the places I've lived previously (NJ and Detroit), there were fans of other teams, but not such a concentration of people rooting for the arch rival of the hometown team.

And like dandridge 10, the Wizards are the only DC team I really root for. Indifferent toward the Skins, mildly favoarble toward the Caps and Nats.

The Cowboys are a bandwagon franchise, like the Yankees and Lakers. They have "fans" all over the country. Just so happens to be more iritating here since they're the rival to our Skins. Also, a lot of clowns grow up and want to be cool and rebelious so they root against the hometown team and become a fan of the Cowboys.
Eric Maynor is the worst basketball player I've ever seen.

There is some truth to that. I've had older African-American men and women--lifelong Washingtonians--tell me that they began rooting for the Cowboys (or another NFL team) because of the racial discrimination practiced (and apparently articulated) by Marshall.

My guess is that some of the younger Cowboy fans in this area grew up in households with parent(s) who rooted for Dallas.

Plenty of kids also became Cowboys fans as a way to annoy their Redskins fan parents. Back in my youth, Redskins DE Ron McDole lived down the street. His son was a Cowboys fan. :nonono:

I must admit I'm less excited to see Wiz games this year then I have been in years past. I need Barron to keep bringing it or Kevin to comeback with the either handed money hook shot to get excited. A more fluid back court wouldn't hurt either. RG3 might be spoiling me, the whole freaking team pretty much sucks but RG3 makes every game worth watching. The Wiz don't have that in Beal, Wall or anyone else. But there isn't a single player on the team I don't like & I like Whittman's crazy meritocracy plan enough to think that it just might work--I also think he doesn't overly do the coach-speak, at least last season he was pretty brutally honest.

I'm totally rambling, I guess I'm feeling guilty/perplexed about not being as excited about the Wiz this year (somehow I was more excited last year even though I think/hope they'll be a little better this year); I also wonder how much of this is being spoiled by RG3 & feeling that our high picks pale in comparison, though I know it's apples to oranges. I was going to end it on a bright note about if the Skins can do it anyone can do it but then I remembered that they're s screwed on draft picks & cap space which sent me into depressing thoughts of RG3 getting sick of losing & deciding he wants to play in Texas.

We'll start signing Negroes when the Harlem Globetrotters start signing whites.

George Preston Marshall. Purportedly, his racialist stance was motivated by a desire to attract/retain southern fans. That seems to have backfired. What a db.

I don't mind fair criticism. I'd rather people keep it real but I think it has effects on players. If you were getting bashed daily in the papers and your city that you play for, doesn't have love for you then why play?(Obviously money). We can **** on management that's cool, but I feel if **** on players because of management incompetence is good.
