I need to see a starting lineup of
Brooks
Thornton
Johnson
Robinson
Cousins
In our current starting lineup, NOBODY can make a jump shot. The team always digs itself holes when Evans and Thomas are the backcourt, and Brooks and Thornton are the ones digging us out in the even quarters. So start them. With the current lineup, teams are free to double and triple team Cousins in the post, and nobody on the court can make them pay because they miss wide open jumpers all day. Cousins benefits from shooters and shooters benefit from Cousins. Brooks and Thornton are shooters. And besides, Evans and Thomas are not starters in this league, period. The coach sees it; they rarely finish games.
And our so-called "defensive" lineups don't stop anybody. Our only hope is trying to outscore teams. That's just the reality of how the roster is constructed. Chuck can play some good one-on-one defense on the opposing team's PF, but look how far that's gotten us in the W column. He's a net negative because he can't grab a rebound to save his life and he's a liability on offense.
And Thompson...come on now. Suck up to his game all you want, but right now, he's the status quo. And the status quo is 2-7. You drafted Robinson at 5, so play the man. He has more upside than Thompson, and is clearly more athletic. Thompson is as good as he's going to get, and that's not good enough to help us win games. At least see what you can get out of Robinson because we're not going to win anyway.
The talent and potential is here; the coach or management or whoever the hell is forcing Evans, Thomas, and Thompson out there instead of Thornton, Brooks, and Robinson is just incompetent. And yes, the roster is stupidly constructed, and I'd be 100% ok if Salmons, Outlaw, Garcia, and Hayes were just cut tomorrow. I mean, Christ in heaven, sign or trade for a small forward who can actually make a jump shot.
