James Anderson Signed

Post#1 » by Nolan » Wed Nov 21, 2012 4:28 am

http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/2012/11/20/stein-spurs-looking-to-anderson-possibly-pietrus/

ESPN’s Marc Stein reports that the Spurs are looking to call up James Anderson from the NBA Development League and have contacted Mickael Pietrus in the wake of Stephen Jackson’s injury.

Pietrus remains another option, according to Stein. He was unable to land a contract over the offseason despite averaging 8.4 points with four teams during his nine-year career. Pietrus appeared in 42 games for Boston last season. He averaged 6.9 points on 50.9 percent true shooting with an 8.5 player efficiency rating, well under the weighted average of 15. The addition of another Frenchman would give the Spurs four, including Tony Parker, Boris Diaw and rookie Nando De Colo.

Jeff McDonald has confirmed that Anderson's coming back on Twitter and with him that gives us 15 players on the roster so I doubt Pietrus is in play, although i'd love to have and with Parker and Diaw here I could see him wanting to play here as well.

But now at least we know who's going to be filling in for Kawhi and Jax, i'm little shocked that it wasn't Derrick Brown though, considering that he was one of our last cuts.

Same here... I figured that was just talk. Thought we would see Witherspoon or Derrick Brown before James Anderson. I mean, James is a SG. And when you talk about bringing what Jackson and Kawhi did, James never brought it before. He doesn't even have the size.

The biggest problem we have now after losing both Kawhi and Jackson is our smallball lineup. And that's a big problem because we play that lineup a lot every game. Now if we are to employ a smallball lineup, it'll have to be with Danny at PF and Manu at SF. Derrick Brown would've made a lot of sense.

I would prefer Pietrus tbh

James Anderson is not a SF and has never been one. He is 6'4 barefoot and 6'6 ish in shoes. Way too small to play SF, even as a backup.

I think the FO gave him another chance simply because he knows the system, because he is garbage.

We will miss Leonard's defense and Jackson's toughness big time. And I agree with co. The small-ball lineup without S-Jax won't work.
Shaq on Duncan:SA won because of TD, a guy I could never break.I could talk trash to Ewing, get in D-Rob's face, get a rise out of Mourning, but when I went at Tim he’d look at me like he was bored and say:“Hey,Shaq, watch this shot right off the glass.”

I would too. Pietrus showed he can knock down that corner 3, play physical defense, and has the body to play that position. I'm not sure he'd actually be interested in both playing here and coming for the minimum. I would think that Pietrus, even if he comes, is only a short term solution and that he'll be a 3rd stringer once Kawhi and Jax comes back. Not sure that's the kind of situation he'd be looking for.

Didn't know Kawhi was out, that sucks big

And, Pietrus or Derrick Brown would of been much better fits than Anderson... even if he knows the system already, Anderson's undersized length-wise.

I remember 2011 summer where Parker proclaimed James Anderson to be the best player in camp and poised to break out. Here's hoping he shows us something. I remember liking James in early 2011 season because he was aggresive looking for his shot and seem aggresive. But that quickly turned sour after he can't get the ball in the basket. At some point, when you're aggresive and you keep missing your shots, it just looks like a ball hog trying to force things and do things you can't do.
