Jeanie and Jim Buss supposely not speaking over Phil Jackson

Post#1 » by leeprettyp » Fri Jan 25, 2013 10:38 pm

The original article by Kevin Ding
http://www.ocregister.com/sports/lakers-409281-buss-jim.html

There is no doubt that Jim and Jeanie, separately, love the Lakers.

Whether they love each other the way that they love their father ... that's another issue.

If there is indeed some mechanism for freeing some of the children to sell their shares – and bear in mind how severe inheritance taxes can be – it's not hard to imagine some wanting to.

Secondary followup from Kurt Helin
http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/01/25/report-lakers-jim-jeanie-buss-not-speaking-after-phil-jackson-debacle/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter

The potential scenarios are nearly endless. There are groups reportedly buzzing about ready should the Buss family want to sell, although I had been told years ago that AEG (owners of Staples Center and a percentage of the Lakers) had first right of refusal. Of course, AEG is up for sale and parts may be broken off, making the situation all the more complex.

We've dropped the ball as an organization as a whole this season. That includes the Front office, players, management and coaching. This is real folks and the health of Jerry Buss is a huge concern. It seems the siblings arent gonna be able to continue to run this team with continued success. smh

Thoughts?

Thank you Kevin Ding for more speculative fiction. Never seen more rhetorical questions in a piece of "journalism."

Hard to see Jim giving up his chunk. in a perfect world I'd have Jeanie and Phil take over completely asap.

Agree, Ding never writes anything good. The only thing credible is the "selling" scenario. The way I see with how costly it is to own a pro team single handedly, Doc's kids may have to sell off the team one day. But with the cloud of AEG up for sell it's complicated, they do in fact have rights to first refusal.

Speculation means nothing. I find this notion hard to believe. So Jim hates Phil?! I don't believe that.

:o
Watchu talking about Willis?
Ding is the best Lakers beat writer. He is not perfect, but he is a great writer. This piece speculates based on what he is hearing from people around the Lakers.

"which is why there are already rumblings about very rich men gearing up to bid and outside investors putting together ownership groups with the idea that the discord within the family will lead the children to sell what Jerry Buss holds: 66 percent ownership of the Lakers".

This is like writing an article based on Trade talk around the league. nothing wrong with that.

Doubtful there will be any selling of the team with the time warner deal.

I think a lot of people make positive presumptions about Jeannie and her management skills due to the fact that she's romantically involved with a beloved head coach.

I'm happy that we got Dwight and Nash and we tried to get CP3. That took some balls.

Obviously Mike-D was not the right choice. But management feared that Phil retiring at the end of the season would have created a situation that would have hurt Dwight resigning. Phil was only going to give the Lakers until June. In July its a dead issue. Phil can't coach forever. At least he will be part owner of the Lakers after he marries Jeanie.

I think the biggest complaint against management are the hirings of Brown and DAntoni. Jim seemed to be a part of both.

btw the complaints about Brown and DAntoni came at the time of the hirings. This wasnt monday morning QBing.

Jeanie comes across to me as the type of person who would be more than happy to hire great people and get the F out of their way so they can do their job. I know this much -- she wouldn't be so deluded as to come up with her own analytics for use in decision-making, like her brother.
