From the microphones not working to Nick Cannon to Rick Fox to the Houston crowd to all the favorites losing in their respective competitions to the terrible musical selection to the terrible musical performances to the East/West idea to the god-awful 1st round of the dunk contest to the obviously rigged results (not saying Ross shouldn't have won but it was clearly fixed) -- you simply cannot dispute this was embarrassingly bad on all fronts.

Why do you think it was fixed? What did the NBA gain by Ross winning it?

It was fixed because the results were "in" before the closing of the voting and that Nick Cannon had a card in his hands reading the final results (including %s) well before the clock hit 00.

I don't think the NBA had anything to gain from it -- I think it was more about time constraints.

He had an earpiece on. How do you know for sure the final results were on the card? Were you standing behind him at the time and saw what was written on there?

I thought it was strange at first too, but as pointed out, he probably got the results in from mic. The card is just for show

Yeah I forgot about that part. They could've just stopped counting the votes early though, or someone just told him through the ear piece.

Yeah, me too.

Now they've got the top ten, and my top two favourite AS moments: VC's GOAT dunk performance, and Bird's three-peat 4-point contest win.

Unless players suddenly start getting cybernetic limbs or taking super drugs the dunk contest will pretty much always stay dead. There is a limit to what human beings can do on a hardwood and 10 ft rim. People idolize the Jordan and Dominique dunk contests, but the reality is that they did it during an era where a lot of dunks hadn't been seen and people were more easily impressed. Vince Carter raised the bar a bit further, and now only insanely difficult dunks will satisfy people.

I can see the dunk contest and the entire all star weekend being cancelled eventually, perhaps in a decade or so. If I were them I would just name the All-Stars, and change the current league schedule. Perhaps make a single elimination tournament halfway through the season. Have every team compete, and give the winning team some type of secondary championship or Cup. That way players will still be recognized for their play, but we will have some meaningful competition instead of boring and meaningless events.

It was obviously fixed by Drake, he's got an album coming up and this is promo.

All Star Weekend = boring as hell as usual and a waste of time

This garbage event needs to be scrapped, the only people that care about it are 7 year old kids with autism and black people who still think dunks are cool

Then he received word on his earpiece before the results were in.

Either it was fixed or they stopped counting before the on-air clock hit 00 and neither looks terribly good to be honest.

smh another crappy dunk contest. not worst then last year but not that good either. the highlight for the night was kyrie irving winning the 3pt shootout for me. i had novak or curry winning it. i already know the asg game tomorrow is going to suck, but i'm going to watch it anyway since i have nothing else better to do  ...
