I can understand wanting high IQ Euro's but why would they want Mirza?

In all seriousness though, San Antonio can be a useful ally in a Josh Smith trade. They have a large expiring contract in Steven Jackson. We could do something like this

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine/?tradeId=asfslwl

Nets get: Smith, Patty Mills
Hawks get: Brooks, Blair, S Jackson, Nets 1st
Spurs get: Hump, Tele, Bogdanovic

You guys are getting too worked up over a trade deadline we won't even make a move at.

thats interesting.

But my gut is that they both say no simply bc they can do better

What I think we have to do is find out who doesn't hate hump, who doesn't consider him a negative, and farm any assets out of them to give Atlanta. Since we're so asset barren
Would Charlotte give atl two 2nd rounders for hump? They send Atlanta diops expiring so they maintain max cap room next year

Hmm on the trade machine I was able to take Ty Thomas off charlottes hands, that's got to be worth something.

But even if you throw Ty Taylor at Atlanta it really feels like a shmorgasboard of "ehh". It's expirings, picks, and a handful of young players. But nothing to hang your hat on.

You know, if that actually happened, and if SA would rather let us take Smith and just take our Euros off us, that should probably tell you something, because they could easily just deal with Atlanta on their own without including a 3rd team like us.

An organization like SA that clearly evaluates talent extremely well is interested in Mirza and Bogs...which tells me that A. Mirza and Bogs are pretty talented, and with the right opportunity and coaching, could be valuable contributors, and B. Smith is not worth the trouble, especially at the price he's demanding...he's not exactly "young" either...he's 27, will be 32 after a 5 year deal, and he's been nothing but unrealized potential his entire career...at this point, he's probably never going to fulfill that potential, so why reward him with a max contract for ability he's never shown? It would be a JJ-type contract all over again, even worse imo, because JJ is a better player.

Well, just because they can get him doesn't mean anything long term. Sure, they want him but he probably wouldn't re-sign and his style of play isn't exactly fitting what the Spurs like to do.

Mirza/Bogs fit the Spurs spacing and cutting style of basketball.

The Spurs tend to be a cost conscious team. They will operate at high payroll but tend to have a line. We know they like our Euros but would they be willing to take on Hump for the price of getting them? I could see Crash and one of those guys for Jackson. But Hump? Not sure they would do it...just doesnt feel like their type of deal...unless of course they simply LOVE these two guys.

Next. I think you improved the Hawks deal greatly because as it has been said many times before.... for them Hump is turd of a pick up. They do not want him and you dealt with it even if you do not agree with the rest of us. But...I still dont know if this gets it done. Perhaps if there is literally not one other credible offer for Smith I can see this deal. But! Make no mistake. This is still an awful haul for the Hawks. Awful. Marshon Brooks is a low level type of prospect right now. His stock is not high.

Overall? Much better job with this trade than the other one so many of us told you wouldnt fly....but I still think they pass.

BTW...for what its worth I would love to be wrong. I know you have been persistent on the Smith hunt with basically no one agreeing with you...but hey, it would be great to find out Ferry isnt the savvy guy most think he is.

Lol. That's probably true. Or, perhaps we wont make a GOOD move.

I put the chances of a great trade happening for us at about 10%. No trade at all at about 40%. And a dumb Billy King for the hell of it move at about 50%...lol.

Nope. Just curious because I read this from Stein's column he just posted.

Orlando, meanwhile, continues to seek no less than a first-round pick for sharpshooter J.J. Redick, who is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent in July.

Well I just figured it out. For us we have to send over 4.75 mil in salary as well. So good luck figuring out who you would send to them to make it work. It wouldnt work out for us.

Looks like it's a 4 way race:

One team close to the situation consulted Monday night predicted that the Nets would ultimately land Smith via a three-way trade after ESPN’s Chris Broussard reported Feb. 11 that Smith is a prime Brooklyn Nets trade target.

Another team pinpointed the Phoenix Suns and Milwaukee Bucks as the strongest contenders to win the Smith sweepstakes. The big worry for both of those teams, though, is whether they could really risk trading for Smith when convincing him to re-sign for the long term is likely to be a serious challenge in either city. Especially with Smith said to be angling for a max deal … and with nobody confusing the Suns or the Bucks with Mikhail Prokohorov’s Nets.

Broussard, furthermore, tweeted early Tuesday that the Washington Wizards have made anyone on the roster available for Smith, apart from John Wall, Bradley Beal or Nene Hilario.

Doesnt Denver still have a massive TE? I keep expecting to read them linked to a deal where they just shock everyone and buy a nice piece to upgrade their team.

They do. but the only way I see them using it is if they unload McGee's contract elsewhere first. If they were to use the exception they'd be over or damn near close to the luxury tax.

Interesting. Can't see Phoenix and Sarver's cheap ass dealing for Smith to give him a max. Guessing Milwaukee is offering Ilyasova in a Smith trade, but Atlanta wouldn't do that.

We might actually have a chance.

You know, if we are able to get Smith...I would really love to see it done tomorrow. Just to let Dwight Howard have a day to soak that one in...lol. Because if he hasnt flat out asked for a trade already? Does anyone really think he wouldnt explode seeing the Nets add Smith and knowing that a trade centered around Lopez for him was still possible? I mean come on...you have to admit the deadline could be extremely interesting if it went down in time!
