How soon, if the Hawks acquire Humphries, could they turn around and trade him?

Could they trade him to a team in the offseason? I'm just thinking in terms of a Mavericks situation where they miss out on all the stars, and want a bunch of 1 year deals to keep flexibility for next year.

They can trade him right away in a 1 for 1 trade

Update

For those of you hanging out with the band as the Titanic sinks.

Mirza is down to 34.6% FG and 31.8% 3pt.

Any trade we make has nothing to do with getting him more minutes. The only reason he played yesterday was because we were coming off of a back to back overtime game.

Carry on.

i thought he would have been so effective, i mean how can you not be in rhythm after a giant string of DNPs

He didnt play well last night. but you continuing to use FG%, ignore TS% (especially for a guy who shoots so few two point baskets) and ignoring sample sizes really makes you look like a mirza-troll. especially when you post the second after every missed shot

No he's a huge troll, the fact he posts this for no reason what so ever in the trade thread amazes me. Tele isn't getting traded so I have no clue why you posted that in here.

ATL are asking for Asik and Chandler but HOU doesnt want to give up assets for someone they can sign for free in the summer. ATL just has to say ok, your offering us trash we'll send him to BKN, im sure he'll re-sign there.

This isn't over even though I highly doubt we get Smith for what we're offering.

I guess you missed the part that says he is shooting 31.8% on 3s

Yeah Im pretty upset that the nets wasted their MLE on this guy and people are still in denial that he is a bust.

I pray that the Spurs make and offer for him. Ill drive him to the airport myself.

the rockets trash is still better then our best offer. they can keep asik/parsons and still give atlanta picks/young talent and they dont have to match salary.

who would replace Houston's Center if Asik is dealt? I don't think ATL was planning on bringing on salary like Asik's anyways....

Would like Josh Smith there though, would be able to play more freely.

You shouldnt believe anything in the last 48 hours prior to a trade deadline. Atlanta is desperate at this point. They are looking at two underwhelming offers from the Nets and Bucks. These "last minute" news blurbs are BS attempts to rattle teams into upping their offer.

32% from three isnt terrible. especially for a rookie to the league who plays once every 5 games. its not like we are talking kobe-esque 1 of his last 34 or something.

ATL is realizing they are in trouble. Teams are not going to bid up high for Smith for several reasons:

1) He already stated he wants out of ATL so teams can just flat out sign him if there is mutual interest after the season
2) Smith is looked at as somewhat of a headcase
3) Smith is not a max player but might be a 3/4 of a max player
4) The 5-6 teams that might be trying to trade for him all know this and are offering decent deals.

The Nets deal if it were Hump, Brooks, and a 1st round pick/Bogs is not bad for a player who is walking away from ATL in a few weeks.

If ATL wants to trade him out of the EAST they probably won't get anything better and might have walked themselves into a corner where they end up losing ATL's fans and any value they could have got in return for a young star player.

Houston could do a deal like: http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine/?tradeId=bb9fhj9

Where Robinson, Jones, Delfino & Motiejunas are moved to Atlanta for Smith. For those kind of young assets Houston could probably get their pick back off Atlanta for this year as well because it's such a rich offer for Smith who they could sign for free in the summer.

That would leave Houston's salary, after they turn down Garcia's option and without Smith's salary at $33,017,707. Smith's 1st year of a new $97.5 m 5 year deal with roughly $17m in the 1st year takes Houston all the way up to $50m but with Asik on the payroll.

Houston would have plenty of offers for Asik if it came to Howard wanting to sign for Houston in the summer as a free agent. Howard and Smith could both sign for Houston long term in the summer. Would be a fantastic young team on paper:

Lin
Harden
Chandler
Smith
Howard

Step away from the trade machine my friend. This makes ZERO sense for Atlanta. Why would they take on all of the Rockets non productive young players?

Houston doesnt have a 1st rounder to trade. They arent getting Smith. It's a smokescreen.

Time to scare the Lakers into trading him to us to keep Dwight away from Houston.

Atlanta is going to take our offer because of Brooks. They also get a 1st and prob Bogdanovic.
