What happened?

Every PG tore the Lakers apart... As a measuring stick, that leaves something to be desired. :D

Now the Lakers could really use him.

After Yao went down in that playoff series, he was the Rockets #1 option. And they took the eventual champ Lakers to 7 games.

That was some very impressive outing from Brooks. The guy can play but he cant find a team right now?

His D can't be worse than Augustin or Calderon's, can it? I agree that he could be backup LA needs, or the starter Boston needs.

I don't really see why the lakers need him tbh...with Blake back and playing well, Nash/Blake take up all the minutes at the 1. I guess he could play at the 2, but we have Meeks already. Lakers have more of a need for a backup big.

Just looking at some of the top teams, here's the list that jumps out at me.

Pacers:
D.J. has been... underwhelming, to say the least. Whether Brooks is an upgrade in talent is debatable at this point. Indy would also have to drop a player, likely one of Pendergraph, Ben H. or Sam Young. I don't see them dropping Pendergraph for a guard, Ben already knows the system and they just brought Sam back. I don't think the Pacers are a landing spot.
Verdict: Not likely

Grizzlies:
Here's an intriguing option. Memphis lost a lot of depth in the Gay and Speights deals so they have both the roster and cap space to add someone. Conley, Bayless, Wroten and maaaaaaaaaaaybe Allen are the only players on the roster right now that can run the offense. Brooks is a bit redundant with Bayless, but I'd look out for Memphis.
Verdict: Strong chance

Rockets:
I'm torn on this one. They'd have to drop a player and Beverley has been playing well. The only person I could really see them letting go is Anderson if they feel Garcia will replace him in the rotation. I like Brooks on their bench, but I don't really see it.
Verdict: Not likely, but maybe.

Knicks:
If they insist on the 1-3 rotation of Felton/Kidd/Shump then they could use a point on the second unit. They have to cut someone like Sheed or Copeland. It could happen.

Verdict: Maybe

Lakers:
Depends on if the FO is desperate enough to think that Aaron Brooks will solidify their postseason hopes. They need to drop someone (DJO, Sacre, Morris) and we know that LA isn't afraid to spend. We could see it.

Verdict: Maybe

Jazz:
They need a guard in his mold. They'd have to cut someone (Murphy?) but I could see him going here.

Verdict: Likely

Boston:
I think they want to wait to see who out of White and Randolph stick, but they have a need for some depth and I guess I could see Brooks fitting here. They just made the deal for Crawford, though. If Brooks goes here, it might not be right away while they wait on their other 10 days to run out.
Verdict: Maybe

Smart money is on the Grizzlies or the Jazz. The more I think about it the more I think Memphis.

Talented guy with attitude problem. He may get back on track if he chooses the right place to play for.
I don't think that many teams would want him tho. He may mess with the team chemistry. If your team has no chemistry anyway this guy could offer huge opportunity. Otherwise it's risky.

He played some remarkable games against Lakers the back in his Rockets days. I certainly see Lakers signing him :D

I can't believe the Kings just simply released him. You're telling me that no team would have at least offered a 2nd round pick for him before the deadline? Typical Maloofs, just like they did with J.J. Hickson last year.

Morey wants another wing (Casspi) and will probably open up a roster spot by waiving Honeycutt, and once he clears waivers let the Vipers sign him. We're good at point guard and don't need Brooks' ego/attitude here.

Edit: to be fair, not like Casspi has been on his best behavior either.

They wanted him off the payroll no questions asked, they don't really care about picks and all those other irrelevant things - much easier to just have him give up his remaining salary and be done with it without all the phones and the headaches.

Grizzles is a good shout actually.
Houston, Lakers, Utah, Heat, Brooklyn would all probably be interested.

What about Portland? I know they just got Maynor but they need more nba quality players for the bench. They are outside the playoffs and I guess he wants to contend.

Id be ecstatic if he came to Boston but we just made the Crawford deal an signed TWill.
Bradley - Brooks - Crawford
Lee - Terry - Williams
Not enough minutes there really and we need bigs not guards. If we didnt sign Twill or trade for Jcraw then yeah id be interested.

Would like him next season to back up Rondo though.

Harden + Brooks = instant offense. Houston needs to get him.

Surely he's a better backup guard than Cole. I mean Coles good on defense but Brooks is a much better offensive player, I don't think Riley will go for it though, I don't think he wants to mess with our rotation when we're doing so well.

boogie-reke, or anyone else, can you explain how the rules are for Brooks regarding his contract?

I thought he had a players option for next year for around $3mil or so. If I'm correct, then in releasing Brooks doesn't his contract still remain the same unless he signs with another team?

I guess what I'm wondering is even though the Kings released him rather than a buyout can Brooks still take his players option and sit out next season with the money if he wanted to?

Just curious how that works.

I'm pretty sure they are working on a buyout that would waive the PO.

He's gonna sign with the Lakers. Someone else will release a good player also and he's gonna sign with them too.
Then the Lakers will have a bench out of nowhere and they're gonna win the championship. Typical.
