Nets own the tie breakers and probably will at seasons end, have the easier schedule (yeah they a few tough road games but overall slightly easier), Nets aren't 100% healthy but the Knicks are getting hammered right now, and the Nets best player is playing like his old self while the Knicks is getting crushed for quitting.
The only thing the Nets got going against them is being down 3 in the loss column.
The only thing?
That's kind of a big deal.
The Nets have 17 games left.
11 of those are on the road where we are a .500 team and have to face:
DAL
LAC
POR
DEN
UTA
BOS
IND
Most of those will be losses IMO.
We also have
@TOR
@CLE
@PHO
@DET
The home games are:
ATL
CHI
CHA
PHI
WAS
DET
Basically, if NY goes .500 in their 20 remaining games (10-10) we have to go 10-7.
I guess it's doable, but I don't think the odds are in our favor.
NY's schedule post road trip is just as hard.
What gives the Nets an advantage is the first three games (ATL, @DET, @DAL) are games they can steal before meeting LA, Portland, Denver, Utah which are later then Cleveland.
Knicks will have Orlando, Toronto x2, Memphis, Boston around that time.
