Well his shooting mechanics are looking much better now. That's the key. Of course he's not keeping up the last 4 game stretch but no one right now gets more open quality looks than John Wall. If he's got open looks, he should make a very respectable % and once defenses really have to start respecting his jumper, he's getting to the rim and finishing at a solid rate plus drawing fouls.

The jump shot is everything. It's why his floor was once mentioned as Derrick Rose. He could potentially be a very efficient player, because there's not one person in the league that can stay in front of him if they aren't cheating off him. I think his attempts at the rim are slightly down because the lane is just so packed. The way he had been shooting, the times he's had to play without Beal, the plodding old school front court of Okafor/Nene... there's really been no room to drive.

First Wizards player to win the honor since Antawn Jamison. In 2008.

For those who say Wall's level of competition was sub-par...isn't it more telling if he DIDN'T dominate them? Good teams, and moreover, good players burn bad teams...right? So while I don't necessarily think beating bottom dwellers is an astounding thing...the fact he simply dominated them is a good sign...right?

Or would the stats say that even marginal players go off on bad teams...

The competition was bad, but he totally dominated. It's a good sign. Now he has to continue playing well, and he needs to play well against top-shelf competition.

Lots of guys have a good game or two. Not many guys sustain this kind of play for very long.

He is practicingt the same place every time. He was shooting it to many different ways. Some leaning. Some fading. etc etc. Wall practicing every day. We are telling him to shoot it the same way every time. At this stage of the game, you aren't going to change a player stroke a lot but what you can do is get them to shoot it the same way each time. Larry Bird didn't have perfect form, but he shot it the same way every time.

I was shooting on the way up. Sometimes on the way down. Now I release it at the same point which is at the top of my shot.

Glad to see he is fixing these things. And as I commented before, it doesn't look like he is trying to jump as high. The shot looks very relaxed and smooth. And to me, it looks like he has pulled his left hand back so its no longer on top or in front of the ball. I guess if you aren't holding the ball while jumping so high, there really isn't a need to grip. Now he can cradle it and let it fly.

Beal must've been playn 2k while he was injured...n showed wall how he need to release....cuz tht how u gotta shoot with him in the game

Yeah, Wall and Beal must be working together a lot. I can sense they have good chemistry and its exciting that they will be pushing each other in the offseason to get better and take pieces of each other's games to incorporate it into their own.

Well deserved, Wall is on the way to becoming a superstar if he plays even half as good as that.

hope that shot remains, pacing, not forcing and only taking whats given, moving the defense around and having the same shot will change everything for him. work this offseason with payton on defense, continue to understand how to run a team, retain the jumper should be his offseason goals. Once the fundamentals are solid now he can improve the mid range and add the three point..
on another note i swear either our team record or players performance drastically improves post all star

If the POTW award is worth anything, it helps serve as a bit of enforcement to Wall that hard work can payoff.

Good point. I said the same thing about Bradley Beal winning the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month award a while back. Even though Beal didn't deserve the award, I thought that the positive reinforcement was a good thing and would get him more comfortable on the floor.

Even before his last two great games of that week, as of 3/12 I made a mental note to stop criticizing Wall and to go easy on any Wall trades. This John Wall is a max contract player when that time comes.

Best of all, he's stepping up like a leader. I'm impressed with his command more than the numbers.
