Starting to sound like Cecil's situation last year...been saying all the right things until they DL him and have him on a minor league rehab stint to sort through it...maybe not, pure speculation on my part.
wow, that's ugly. Was he throwing right handed? If not, maybe he should start trying...
Well, I think the whole point of going down, even in ST, is to take any pressure off about trying to throw with old broken mechanics to get a fastball over when you need it. This way he's still trying to fix himself and isn't there yet, even when he's 3 balls and it hurts him in the stat line, but I actually take a little encouragement - not much since I didn't see it - that he stayed on message and focused and just doesn't have it right yet.
That may not be the case at all, but I'm not at all afraid of really terrible outings 'cause it means something fairly major is being rebuilt, which has felt necessary for quite a while. Whether they can fix him remains to be seen. I tend to think that the persistent knee issues may be something he never overcomes, but by all reports, the way he's been going he wasn't going to magically find "it" and now they're going to break him down and put him back together as best they can. That kind of effort should have some really ridiculous outing at the start, otherwise it wouldn't require such drastic measures, so think of it as a good first step forward rather than another backwards one. /glasshalffull
