Basically he said it will be the same as last year but he wants more transition (sometimes refered to as "easy") baskets. No drastic changes. He said we will still be basically the same team as last year which was mainly a half court team. They will run the same offense that they did last year and Mo agreed, theres even quotes in the article saying that he was not gonna lead the offense differently that how it was before. This is why I know he didn't tell Mo to do what he's doing. He's just putting up with it. He may be fine with it but that doesn't mean that he wants him to play like that.
Its all right there, corbin saying he wasn't gonna change much at all and Mo agreeing. Dang you MO!!!
that article just makes corbin look worse imho:
"If things are going well, we may push it a little bit more. We have some guys who are pretty good in open court, so they’ll get an opportunity to attack early."
that only happens when the C4 are playing, and they are coming off the bench. when was the last time you saw a successful fast breaks with our starting lineup of vets? mo, foye, al all suck at running the fast break or running at all. they make horrible passes. marvin is average at best. millsap is just ok. and those are your starters. C4+pg run a lot, much because the opportunities their defense creates, yet they are bench players.
"In half-court sets, we want to be a lot crisper in the things we do," he said. "The sets will be primarily the same, but we have some different options we’re looking at having."
well, that didn't work either, did it? the offense is just a mess and much worse than last year. definitely not crispier, and this time he had the time to prepare.
Corbin wants the Jazz to bump the tempo — depending on the situation, of course — and he’ll use the final three weeks before the start of the regular season to fine-tune the strategy.
so he basically wasted three weeks of preparation time on something he can't execute with the lineups he puts out there. and he wasted three weeks on preparation on something the team ends up not doing this season.
"We have more time in practice — more time to get guys used to what we’re trying to do," he said. "That will help us get to the third, fourth and fifth options on some plays. So we will be more expanded that way."
During the offseason, the Jazz acquired veterans Mo Williams, Marvin Williams and Randy Foye. They drafted Kevin Murphy in the second round. All are shooters, and Corbin believes a quicker offensive with more options will benefit all four.
"You need options in this league," Corbin said. "Teams scout you, and they know your sets. They take one thing away from you, then you have to get to a second or third thing that you feel good about. If you do that, you have a better chance of winning."
so he wanted to get into the offense quicker, yet we get into the offense extremely late in the shot clock most of the time, after many needless dribbles from mo and watson. tell me how this is not 100% fixable and 100% coaching.
he wants to get to 3rd, 4th and 5th options during an offensive possession. how many times did that actually happen this season? how is that not related to coaching?
i remember so many articles about the jazz going to increase the tempo, including locke talking about it quite a bit. this article is a very moderate example of how it was being talked and emphasized back then. i even remember the pre season games when the jazz were actually pushing the tempo. and the opposing team's broadcasters on all occasions mentioned that the jazz are playing at an extremely high pace and that they are pushing it every chance they get. it didn't last much after the pre season ended.
