Because Wall would never sign a 1 year deal. He wants the Max, not to just leave DC.

That would be so realistic if a 4 million dollar per year player bankrupted the DeVos family.

BadMofoPimp wrote:The realistic part is the Magic became perrenial losers that lost too many fans and Devos got out while the movin was good.

I guess what you're saying is at that point, after year 1, he'd be able to get a new contract if he wasn't injured? Because if he was to go to a new team, he'd have to get rid of the last 3 years of the contract. If he was injured, he'd just stay on the Wizards for the next few years?
There's nothing in the books that says that's not possible as far as I can tell. But why would the Magic do it? Just to make him a free agent the next year?

exactly. takes the incentive out of Washington matching. they figure "well, damn, he's got an opt out after 1 year anyway... we can match, but he'll most likely leave after a year. so we can match and try and trade him before the all star break, or we can negotiate a s&t now with the Magic".
it's the best of all worlds. Wall doesn't have to take a QO for a lesser amount, so he still gets paid, still gets the insurance of a big, long term deal, and has the freedom to get out and go to another team after that 1 year period.

Which potential 2015 FAs do you like?
