Mirza is being used horribly and at this point there really is no excuse. Bogdonvic can hopefully learn from Mirza's situation since he is thankfully staying for the next 3 years to help him adjust to the NBA.
I think both will excel next year if we are able to bring him over.
mirza had a 10 game stretch where he got consistent rotation minutes and looked terrble. 10 games where he was the 4 off the bench and got 11+ minutes in each game and averaged 16.8 mpg during that span.
he had his chance to make the most of that opportunity and earn more minutes or justify himself on the court and simply did not take advantage of it. he shot 39.9% from the field and played some really awful defense. Which is why the "mirza should start" thread has been a ghost town since then. not that some dont still want him to start, but its now justifiable that he doesnt.
Our biggest issues are defense. and mirza in his minutes made us worse defensively and looked lost at times. which is what i assume PJ and avery saw in practice and didnt like. his 5 man unit numbers didnt translate over big consistent minutes ot justify keeping him on the floor inspite of the defense. and his "great spacing" he provides didint have any positive impact to us offensively during that span.
As a reserve or bench player, in any sport, you have to always be ready to step in and take advantage when your number does get called. mirza didint. flat out. you can use whatever excuse you want, but the bottom line is he got 10 games to prove PJ wrong and at best played below avg basketball during that stretch.
