So the Spurs set up a system that stated you don't rely on free agency because history shows you will have to overpay, but signed Richard Jefferson to a bloated contract. Realizing that mistake they traded Jefferson, but to do so they had to break another one of their tenants, don't waste time trying to rehabilitate head cases, with Stephen Jackson.

The waiving of Jackson was strategic, but they were able to implement the strategy because shortly after signing Jefferson they realized they had strayed from their principles and went about finding young players to compliment the core. The development of Leonard allowed the Spurs to waive Jackson and strategically send a message to the current players that the distractions of the regular season were over and it was time to come together for the playoffs.

The Spurs deserve credit for overcoming what could have been a franchise crippling mistake in signing Jefferson.

Same thing, what if a player is traded at the trade deadline, the team he was traded from wins the championship, does the traded player get a ring? I feel like I should know these answers, but I never really thought about it lol.

Rings are actually not mandatory. If an owner was enough of an ****, he could not give rings at all (see Cuban wanting to give belts instead ). Some owners give rings to everyone, including arena maintenance. Others may want to pay for less rings- just players and coaches. If they want to pay for an extra ring for someone who was traded and waived, it's up to them.

When the 04 Red Sox traded Nomar away and eventually won the World Series, the players voted on whether or not he should get one, and they voted yes.
