Funny how much these two got compaired and discussed but at the end of the day their production is almost identical.
Lin PER:14.7
Felton PER: 13.8
How are they identical?
Lin: 107 games started
Felton: 547 games started
Big difference
Felton has a lot more experience when compared to Jeremy Lin which is an advantage for the Knicks in our own right due to us being a true contender as of right now. But it's not right to compare the two players as of right now, because Raymond Felton had a much better (overall) season when compared to Jeremy Lin. The only aspect of Jeremy Lin's game in which was stronger than Felton's game, were pretty much Lin's field goal percentage. Felton had a FG% of .427%, a 3PT FG% of .360, a FT% of .789% along with a TS% of .505%. Lin had a FG% of .441, a 3PT FG% of .339%, a FT% of .785 along with a TS% of .538%.
Not trying to crap all over Lin here but keep in mind while reviewing these numbers below, that we have Felton locked up over the next two years (2013-2014 & 2014-2015) for only $8,540,000 while Houston's stuck paying Jeremy Lin $20,123,938 during the next two up coming seasons. A difference of $11,583,938 over the next two years. In short Raymond Felton is not only better for our current team (veteran leader) but also much, much better for our team moving forward.
Ray: 13.9 points, 5.5 assists, 2.9 rebounds, 1.4 steals & 2.3 turnovers per game.
Lin: 13.4 points, 6.1 assists, 3.0 rebounds, 1.6 steals & 2.9 turnovers per game.
Ray:Player Efficiency Rating of 15.22. Assist Per Turnover Ratio of 2.40. Steals Per Turnover Ratio of 0.61. Usage Percentage of 22.1%. Turnover Percentage of 14.2%. Record of 47-21 (.691%).
Lin:Player Efficiency Rating of 14.94. Assist Per Turnover Ratio of 2.11. Steals Per Turnover Ratio of 0.57. Usage Percentage of 20.8%. Turnover Percentage of 18.8%. Record of 45-37 (.549%).
But yet Jeremy Lin is due $11,583,938 more than Raymond Felton over the next two seasons? Simply mind boggling. Our front office hit the nail on the head by A.) Allowing Houston to overpay for an inexperienced Lin due to a handful of games and B.) Trading for Raymond Felton. Outside of a simple FG percentage, in regards to pure PG production, Raymond Felton has a much stronger season when compared to Lin.
With all that said, it'll be hilarious (on Houston's part) if Jeremy Lin returns to the Knicks come the summer of 2015/2016 once both Felton and Lin are free agents. Felton would be 31 years of age while Lin's only 27 along with enjoying his prime/golden years. Allow Houston to overpay while developing Lin over the previous 3 seasons only for Lin to return back to New York as an experienced PG with postseason experience. The joke would then be on Houston's front office/franchise. Only time will tell, but if Jeremy Lin is as loyal as some of his fans claim, he'll return back to the franchise in which made his NBA career (for much cheaper) and/or gave him his only true chance along with his monster payout he later received from the Houston Rockets. No matter how much I judge Jeremy Lin, I'd be lying if I stated I wouldn't take Lin over Felton while Felton's 31 compared to an experienced Lin who's only 27 years of age two years from now (it's called perspective).
Lets not forget that the numbers Felton put up during 2010-2011 with the Knicks during 54 games were stronger than what Lin put up, during Linsanity. In closing we'll now see how both players perform come postseason play. Where it truly matters.
