If Rose really is still screwed up, months after most people are playing, the Bulls likely do have an Arenas / Livingston scenario on their hands. Like Wilbon said, Rose might be playing in China in a few years as a result.
No, Wilbon said Rose might be playing in China as a result of him rushing back before being mentally ready to perform, which he isn't doing. Rose is playing it smart.
Read Wilbon's paragraph on Tim Hardaway and Magic Johnson's returns.
"Tim Hardaway said it took him 11 months before he was ready to play in an NBA game. "My biggest thing," he said, "was getting my head and knee on the same page, so I could do the same things I did before the injury -- doing the crossover, exploding to the basket [and] not being afraid to lay the ball up over a big guy ... I had to get to the points where I didn't fear leaping off my [injured] leg ... That was the biggest challenge I had to overcome ... It's something you just have to go out and do.""Magic Johnson tells the story about a knee injury early in his career, after he'd already won an NBA championship. He had been medically "cleared to play" and came back because he thought he was supposed to but he couldn't find his form, felt lost on the court. It wasn't until the summer, when Magic dunked over a bigger player in a summer league game, that he was psychologically ready to be Magic Johnson again."I hope as a Bulls fan that Rose is healthy and just being a douchebag by refusing to play.
I hope he is being a douchebag by refusing to play, because that means he's being selfish about this injury which is exactly what he needs to do. Nothing's come out that Rose isn't physically healthy. Everything's come out that Rose isn't mentally healthy. His brain isn't on the same page as his knee. That's only something he can figure out and not a doctor.
Lol at Tim Hardaway. I heard there was a wrestler in ancient greece who had issues with recovering from an infected cut, of course, that was about 2400 years before penicillan was discovered.
Anyways, if Rose had a normal injury recovery, he should be 100% fine right now as far as injury risk. He is healed. He likely still has pain though and if that's an issue stopping him playing, he probably isn't playing next year either.
Just to be direct: There is no benefit to Rose sitting right now if his knee healed normally. Cole said originally that the healing took about 4 months after surgery. The rest of the rehab is just strengthening. Him being "selfish" doesn't help him. Quite the contrary. It slows down the time before he plays at 100% again.
If Rose's knee isn't healed, he is screwed.
