I think the first step in a rebuild is simply acquiring assets first. After you like your core then you think about netting cap space to add to it.
These deals may be quasi unlikely, but the value and team motives are there. These moves accomplish netting future picks and cap space anyhow as well.
Deal 1: Gay to Washington for no. 3 pick, Okafor and Ariza
Gay is from Baltimore and the wiz want to make a playoff run next season. Okafor provides depth behind Val.
Raps can use pick on wing replacement, Otto Porter...and if he's taken...Victor Oladipo.
Deal 2: 3 way. Lowry, Bargnani and Fields to LA...Gasol to Brooklyn...Hump, Brooks, lotto protected 2014 pick (or next available pick) to Toronto.
Such a deal would only happen if Howard resigns and or used as a means to convince him to stay. Lakers add the pieces that should compliment the team far better in near future. Nets want to improve and get more talent in Gasol. Raps shed some bad deals and net a solid prospect in Brooks and a pick.
Deal 3: DeRozan to PHX for Dudley and 5th pick
Suns have been known to seek a future 2 guard and if Oladipo is off the board this could be a solid route for them. Raps draft Burke with pick.
Raps lineup:
PF A. Johnson/ K. Humphries/ Q. Acy
SF O. Porter/ J. Dudley/ T. Ariza
C J. Valancuinas/ E. Okafor/ A. Gray
SG T. Ross/ M. Brooks
PG T. Burke/ FA
Not a bad future lineup with nice cap relief. Though it shows how hard a future year down is which is why sticking with gay and co is likeliest route
