A Husky could totally take a Pellican.

Welcome to dinosaur team and championship time!
Come on, how can you throw that out for a stupid dog theme.

And I have to say, it frustrates me to no end that people are actually defending keeping the "Raptor" name. Seriously, I thought this would be a no-brainer.

The US Airforce named the F22 Advanced Tactical Fighter the "Raptor" and I have never heard anyone complain about its name or that it sounds too cartoonish.

Raptor also means Bird of Prey. But I do not think anyone raised the F22 Advanced Tactical Fighter or Birds of Prey when the team name was being considered. Jurassic Park was front and centre. For goodness sake, one of the other team names up for consideration was "T-Rex". That movie was everywhere at that time.

It's the context that is the issue. You can't pretend they always meant figher jet.

Huskies is right up there with Igloo Builders, Snowmen, Maple Syrup Suckers, Polar Bear Jockeys and whatever other typical Canadian name you can think of.

I'll stick with Raptors for some originality.

In my opinion "Raptors" is a 7 out of 10. Not bad enough that it needs a change, and still better than a lot of names - Heat, Magic, Pelicans, Jazz, Thunder, etc. Does it need to be changed? I don't really think so.

That being said, Huskies is a way better name. Seems more like a classic name, than a gimmicky one like the Raptors.

Also, I love the logo/jersey designs for Huskies, and I love the colours.

What will a change in mascot do to the little toddlers expecting to see the big red dinosaur at the ACC? "He's gone..dinosaurs are extinct" Well one thing is you can change the mascot but you dont have to change the guy underneath the costume..will be the same old entertaining, #1 mascot in the NBA even with a change in name.

Not sure why... Huskies are not indigenous to Canada. Not like we are proposing the Toronto Labrador Retrievers.

Also, interesting that you have a Blue Jays avatar. I once heard that the Blue Jays name was selected because the team was originally owned by Labatt’s and they wanted a name that reflected their #1 seller (Labatt’s Blue). The history of team names in this City is not a great one.

When or where did I say they named it after the F22? What I said is that the F22 is called the Raptor and no one considers it a cartoonish name. Just so happens that the F22 was named the Raptor in the same time period as the Jurassic Park movies were made. If anyone should take any blame for the cartoon image, it should be the person who designed the stupid "Barney" looking jerseys.

I bet if the name does get changed then in 15-20 years time another group of fans will want the Raptors name back and wonder why we ever changed.

When the Jays changed their look in the late 90s and 2000s some people thought it would be a nice, modern change from the old look. We all know how that turned out and how everyone fell back in love with the classic Jays logo.

If people don't like dinosaurs then they might as well go with the birds of prey angle. That way they keep the name but just do a logo change. Plus there are more birds of prey in this city than huskies.

Don't ditch the Raptors after all these years man...
Just be glad we aren't the Magic, Jazz, Bobcats, Clippers(?), or Pelicans for that matter.
Let's go Raptors!!!

I like Raptors, but will be okay with the Huskies. Raptors may have been a Jurassic Park fad, but I like the idea of a vicious pack of predators hunting down their prey. Huskies may fit more with the whole Canada North thing, which may enforce our stereotype, but I don't have a problem with that.

Huskies is weak, HS or D-League really. And yes, it does perpetuate the stupid notion that we live in igloos.

Jays went back to their "winning" look. If it was just about going back to their "old" look, they could have gone with the pale blue uni's. People are back in love with Jays gear because the new Jays gear resembles closely the "winning" Jays gear. Pistons went through something similar.

Given that the Raptors have no "winning" gear, I'm guessing it won't be likely that people will be clamouring to go back to the "Raptors" look if the name gets changed.

If we want to go the history route why not:

The Toronto Peach Baskets
The Toronto 91ers (1891 was the year b-ball was invented)
The Toronto 46ers
The Toronto Towers

Or going with the climate:

Toronto Ice
Toronto Smog
Toronto Temperature Fluctuations

Or taking a page from soccer:

The Toronto Basketball Club
Royal/Real Toronto
Toronto United

Pop Culture:

The Toronto Drakes
The Toronto Skylanders (this one should be popular with the kids)

Or if we sell the team name:

The Toronto Basketball Club Presented by Blackberry Formerly Known as Research in Motion

I like the last one.

Raptors are an extremely rare sports team name...a lot of team have Huskies...I want us to be different....it's not the name that will define us, its the culture...keep the name the same but change the logo and jerseys to blue and white...

I didn't think I could fall in love with the Huskies but after seeing that design I actually hope they go that way. Blue and white are so much better.

I feel like I'm wearing a garbage bag with the word "Raptors" on it and some silver duct tape arrows every time I wear my black Raptor jersey. Our jerseys right now look so trashy. That Husky redesign looks classy and I like how it unites the hockey and basketball teams together under one set of colors.

Raptors. Stop trying to change the **** team's name. All it does is make people outside of Toronto think we're another new expansion team, at least the few that know we exist. That's the last thing we need, to be thought of as an expansion team again.

Return to Toronto Raptors
