A team that underachieved to levels that are simply embarrassing is a team that needs a hardass, proven coach to grind them into work.
Bringing in what is basically a play ers coach to be with a bunch of underachievers is a complete disaster waiting to happen and an insult to fans. Does the owner think in his wildest dreams that Andray Blatche could give two ***** what Jason Kidd thinks?
These guys don't need a pal or a friend. Jason Kidds knowledge of basketball is great and all, but this is professional sports, in a league where coaching is becoming so important in regards to a teams development. I'm not even a Nets fan but I'm kind of disgusted. Makes the league seem like a joke.
Most experts and people on here said they were a mid 40's win team and 1st round exit.
They won 49 and lost in the 1st round.
Don't see how that is underachieving.
Yes, the lost to the Bulls but:
-They came back from down 1-3
-Bulls have the best coach in the East
-Bulls have one of the best defenses in the league
-Bulls have one of the best centers in the league
-Bulls were 9-3 vs. Miami, NY and BK this season
-Bulls won game 1 in Miami and ran out of gas, but could have one a couple more vs. Miami
-Thibs said Noah was feeling better than he had in a while and he never showed any signs on injury
-Bulls had chemistry, heart and experience from many years together, Nets had none
-Nets had PJC as their coach
-Nets would have won in 6 if CJ could dunk
-Nets had Evans as their starting PF (Boozer owned him all season), which I pray is not the case next season
Either way they've hard asses.... Avery and PJC both had hard ass reputations.. it didn't work. Now they are going with a potentially player friendly coach in Kidd (Shaw seems to be one too).
And who exactly who have been better?
Karl, who can't win in the playoffs and plays at a fast pace?
Scott, who has done little since NJ?
Hollins, who is a control freak and not getting much interest?
Larry Brown who is 71 and quit on a couple past jobs?
Phil, they tried for and he simply said no.
You also have to ask who else wanted this job.
Mike Dunleavy lobbied for it. Should we have hired him?
Meanwhile his staff will be key.
Frank
Messina
Gentry
Some names floated around.
This will be a team effort from the sidelines with the intent to build a long standing relationship.
It's also a risk they needed to take.
This team isn't going to get better the way other teams can because of their cap situation. They need to take chances.. like this one.
