In four years starting and all of the minutes he got, Brandon still rarely passes when he gets in the paint. To me, it's one of his biggest flaws, especially given he's such a poor finisher around the rim.

He'll blow pass his defender while almost always going left, get into the paint, draw a help defender or two, and the vast majority of times, put up a a floater or bricked layup, regardless that often enough teammates were open as help defenders left their guy to collapse on Jennings. For all of the flaws Monta had, his vision as passer off dribble penetration was much better.

I just got back inside from shooting Sikma 3's in the dark, with fantasy assists from Johnny Cocaine Lucas, via Paul Mokeski. Just poured another Captain & Coke. Continue on ...

His vision really is pathetic. Plus, the number of times he actually blows past his man to get into the paint is much less than your typical PG.

I think his only value would be as a 5-6M per year PG on a team that could use him as a spot up shooter rather than as a ball dominant guard. He'd be decent for Houston, for example. Unfortunately for him, with the de-emphasis on an inside-outside game in the modern NBA, he has very limited value since he can't penetrate, he isn't good in the pick and roll game, and his jumper is merely good instead of great or better.

Beyond that, he's not very good defensively and he sucks on the break, so even in a limited PG role his value is diminished.

Realistically, he probably won't really be paid what he's worth until after his next contract when he makes like 4-5M a year as a starting PG on a team that needs a very limited starting PG or a backup.

I want him gone.

I like the deal, and I think he is a perfect fit for Drew's system, although I really hope we find a 3 who can defend and shoot from the corner. Maybe Luc becomes that (he did shoot well from the corner last season) but I have my doubts about that happening at this point.

If I knew for a fact that we were going to sign / acquire a 3 and D small forward I would almost be ok with bringing Monta back to play PG. Monta is better at the drive and dish than both Teague and Jennings put together. If he had 3 other shooters on the floor with him, that team would actually make sense, provided Larry Drew could convince him to stop shooting mid range jumpers off the dribble.

However I fully expect us to extend BJ.

I hope he doesn't improve and he drags us into the lottery.

I'd like to see the follow-up moves of something like getting a Larkin with a BJ S&T or something bold like a young/vet combo like a Lorenzo Brown/Jack. If you do that, you can save the money to pay a quality scoring 3 that isn't old (I prefer to do that via trade over these FA's). I think a big key will be bench scoring with MD gone.....Delfino?

Mgmt could say we want to compete, and we're developing a couple of youngsters in Henson, PG and the Greek -- one of which might become our face of the franchise type. That gives us hope, and maybe something decent to watch until the youth emerges.
We all need hope, but hope is not a plan.
