Re: The 2013 Trade Thread III
So we've already given up a ton of our cap space, likely given away our pick this year, and now you want to give away the only other assets we have from this "rebuild"? For a player as marginal as Thompson? No thanks.
I'd be ok with trading one or the other (maybe), but now I'm not even sure of that since I'd like to have those to see if we can at least trade into the top ten or so next year.

Vanderbilt_Grad wrote:I don't think that the team should trade picks unless they are getting something amazing back. Those picks are what is going to enable the rebuild to keep going even as the team gets better in the short to mid term.
Ben Gordon should be about the only thing that the team dangles for most deals. Mid-year there will be more demand for him. Sessions, picks, or other young players should only be traded in hugely favorable deals. They are the team's foundation for the future.
I can see the benefit of holding the picks as they escalate in value and using them to add to the rebuild. I'm fine either way if we use them to add the missing SG or save them to address needs as they arise over the next few years. I do feel like both picks will carry over.
And I would agree Gordon could be dangled for a pick midseason. I think where we differ is Sessions. I think we should get a pick for him as well.
It might be best if we can get Hendo on a bench salary. I think if we did that we would end up missing the playoffs and getting our own pick.
So we could have our own pick in 2014 + a late 1st round pick for Gordon + a mid-late first for Sessions + a DET pick that carries over to top-1 protection in 2015 plus a POR pick that moves closer to unprotected in 2016.
That's 5 first round draft picks with possibly 3 of them in the top 10.

Re: The 2013 Trade Thread III
We just got to find out a way to win only 30-32 games and be 10th or worse in the 2014 draft. that way we may have 3 picks if we dump Gordan and Portland is better. That way could trade 3 picks and MKG for Wiggins. Your idea of signing Hendo will cost more than you are projecting. RFA --Probably 6 million over 3 to 4 years like Mayo's contract with Milwaukee..Any more than that ,we should let him go and sign Dorell Wright FA to replace him. This is getting really good!!!!!!!!Re: The 2013 Trade Thread III

Wiggins looks special and all (and that's no guarantee), but three picks AND MKG?

Seems like teams over the soft cap are almost in a better situation then teams under the cap...
teams in the soft cap couldn't sign 12 million dollar contracts

All these rules are supposed to make it really tough to make super-teams with 100M dollar payrolls and to help keep big-name players with their old teams.

Wonder what kind of deal it would take to get Marcus Thornton from the Kings... Seems like we could maybe steal him from them...
I actually think the Kings have some nice players, but they do not really fit together very well...

Marcus Thornton is a massive chucker and barely an upgrade to Gordon.

Re: The 2013 Trade Thread III
I'd trade Ben Gordon for him, Chuck Hayes and a pick if they wanted to dump contracts for expirings. Wouldn't take him for much more than that though. Thornton is a mindless bomber, but if he can reign it in a little, he could be a terrific role player.JMAC3 wrote:Wonder what kind of deal it would take to get Marcus Thornton from the Kings... Re: The 2013 Trade Thread III
Only would do that if we could flip Hayes to another team. Pay Jeff Adrien like $6 mil a year and you have Chuck Hayes. Actually I still think Jeff is better even at the same rate.

To get Monta Ellis by taking Marcus Thornton, Chuck Hayes, and a future number one?
Why for CHAR, by adding Thornton you add a legit scorer to go along with the newly signed Al Jefferson. Both should be around 20 points per game. Also by adding Thornton, you can buy out Gordon. Hayes offers depth. You add 2 quality players to a roster that needs more NBA ready players and the future number one is also helpful.

If we had the cap space, I'd do it for the future first coming back our way, which unfortunately isn't Sacramento's to give anyway. I think Thornton is a terrific talent, but his mindless bombed tendencies are best suited off the bench for a playoff team who wants instant scoring. Cleveland might be a better team to ask.

Re: The 2013 Trade Thread III
Marcus Thornton seems destined in a few years to be the guy who has played the most regular season games without a playoff appearance. I absolutely don't want to see that guy on our team. What would be the point, if we had to pay him the same money as Hendo? I much rather keep Gerald then.

Re: The 2013 Trade Thread III
ESPN finally updated the trade machine. Take a look at our contract situation - it's a thing of beauty. We have Gordon and Sessions expiring. For 18 million we can add a star if we determine the playoffs are within striking distance this year or we can bolster the rebuild with a few picks.
We have some nice trade assets in Gordon, Sessions, the DET pick and the POR pick.

Chandler makes around the natural compromise with Hendo. So there would be no point in this trade.
