Wouldn't you move Edwin to 3rd, leave Raja in LF and move Melky to DH?

Edwin is horrible at 3B.

Did people really think Lawrie would be GG caliber at 3B?
There were questions if Lawrie could even play 3B at all. I say give the kid a shot at 2B because he's obviously very athletic. If you look around the league, there are way way worse athletes and arms at 2B.
It's possible he lacks the agility, hip turn but I wouldn't mind trying.
I don't care what scouts said about him at 2B in the minors because obviously everyone was wrong about him at 3B.

I believe Lawrie will succeed at either second or third base. Productive hitters at second are much harder to find than productive third basemen. Lawrie spent his first years in the minors playing second base. The Brewers were thinking of switching him to third, not because he was a bad second baseman, but rather, because they wanted him to arrive to the MLB level as soon as possible and they already had a quality second basemen named Weeks(or at least at that time, Weeks was considered a quality second baseman).
I believe the Jays also factored in the results of watching the Nationals' Rendon make the switch from third to second base this year virtually on the fly and succeeding and believe Lawrie can do the same and have similar success.

I wonder if this 2B thing has already gotten the best of Lawrie
He's 0-4 tonight in BUF with four strikeouts. His average in BUF is .182, small sample size, but don't rush him back yet, AA.

lol i think he just sucks and needs to get off the redbull. Him and JP clearly have the same hitting philosophy. But hey thats what you get when growing up in the steroid era.

Well he still could be GG caliber at 3b. Off the top of my head Machado and Longoria are the only guys in the AL that'd I take over him fielding wise at 3b

I still don't know why the Jays are trying this...
Izturis is a decent fielder and his bat is coming around. Having him play 2nd until the end of the season sounds ok to me.
Potential Free Agents at 2B include Robinson Cano, Omar Infante, Chase Utley and potentially Ben Zobrist.
As for 3B, only Michael Young and Mark Reynolds really intrigue me.
So why not make a move for an Utley or Young and work throughout the year to sign them to a new contract.
Moving Lawrie is not the answer in my opinion.

^ Young is old and Utley is injury prone. Both would be good as rental players if the Jays were in a winning position. I don't see them making a rental deal. Plus there's no guarentee they would sign after this year anyway. AA's approach has been controllable assets.

Lawrie's playing third tonight, for what it's worth.

**** your asterisk.

Must have something to do with his 4 strikeout performance. Jesus, AA and management are sure messing with these prospects. They already ended Snider's career. Not to mention the amount of pitchers that have been injured.

Part of the problem with submitting Lawrie to an extended 2B trial in Buffalo is that it relegates a perfectly good second baseman and local fan favorite - Jim Negrych - to the bench. Negrych is one of Buffalo's best bats, too. For that matter, Lawrie at 3B puts a better hitter on the bench, too. AA should have sent Lawrie to New Hampshire which is offensively challenged and can use a power bat. Double A pitching is fairly good, some pitchers as we know make the jump from Double A right to the majors, but there is more room to experiment in NH than there is in Buffalo. This is especially true if they decide to option Lawrie once his rehab period expires.

Agreed completely. I'd put Machado above Longoria and both above Lawrie as well.
