Knight has the ability to play the 2 guard spot, you don't not play him just because you want him to be strictly a PG. Also knight normally only shoots wide open shots, and he also has the capability to get to the rim. One thing that was clear is that if knight just focuses on scoring, he's a lot more effective.
I am really nervous about this, because we have a hell of an opportunity to really develop all of our young guys, and with as bad as the team was, Pope needs to develop at a quicker pace, so he can fit in well with the starters. I am being dead serious here. Who in the HELL wants Stuckey, or Knight to start at SG? Seriously? That's why we drafted a 6'6 slashing jump-shooting SG, so he can play SG!
Defense is going determine who starts at SG. however i'd be very surprised if KCP wins the starting job as a rookie. Also its really not a big concern as CB isn't going to be playing 30 mins a night.
I don't see what him being a rookie has to do with a damn thing. Im sick of giving play time to players who do not deserve it. Stuckey is a backup at best. Knight is supposed to be a PG. Who else do we start at SG? Honestly?
Its very possible BK at this point is the better SG. Matter of fact its guranteed. Its extremely rare to find a rookie game ready. common sense bud, it has nothing to do with deserving time.
If we don't start Pope, why did we draft him at his slot? That is a lottery pick, and he should start.
because he was BPA at a position of need. A lottery pick should start for a lottery team, we are a playoff team now.
Knight would be an undersized SG. I hate midget 2-guards, and PG's. They get exploited time and time again in this league. Could our front-court cover alot of that? Sure, but it would absolutely be a sore spot.
You can say "common sense bud" if you want, but what I stated was common sense. What is Knights role on this team exactly? Is he going to be a floor general, or a SG? If he's not it, then who? Bynum? Stuckey? who exactly? Your saying Billups wont play that many minutes. I say, who cares. I want Knight to be given the chance to lead this team, and starting at SG, where he will get exploited on a nightly basis, wont help his development. I would rather him start over Billups at PG, if that's going to be the case.
"Lottery picks start on lottery teams." The Pistons have been a horrible team, so now, with these moves, you expect us to make the playoffs, at the expense of playing our rookies, alongside 2nd year players? even players younger then him? That makes zero sense. Everyone knows what Stuckey is. I don't even want him to play, save for back-up minutes. What if we don't make the playoffs, and play Pope crap minutes, as a back-up? Wasted season? Wasted development time?
Our front-court looks set(That could change, who knows)so our main concern should be the back-court, wich is a train-wreck to say the least right now. Its a mix&match of under-talented, under-sized, aging, cant shoot, don't know how to lead, bunch of basketball players. What harm would there be in starting a high draft pick, who can shoot, slash, and rebound the ball at the SG slot, wich is arguably the worst on the team right now? That makes perfect sense to me. His development early, certainly playing alongside a proven leader in Billups, who will get him the ball in the correct spots, is invaluable. Knight could then come in, and Pope, who is used to getting the ball in the right spot from Billups, could explain that to Knight.
It would also set the rotation early, instead of experimenting all the damn time, with weirdo back-courts, wich we will see alot of this season. You could see A Bynum Knight, Billups Bynum, Billups Stuckey, Stuckey Bynum, e.t.c. I don't want to see a hundered lineups to start the year. Billups Pope, or Knight Pope to start. All our other SG's, quite frankly suck.
