PG is loaded throughout the league. SG's are out there and not being paid as much as AA. Granted, AA is better than someone like Neal, but Neal was also just paid half his price. Also add that Phx took on Gerald Green and his 2 years at $3.5mil/yr.

Yeah, I'm not really thrilled about the 2014 FA class, so taking on a contract like that wouldn't bother me that much, but you're right that it improves the value of the trade for Indiana.

In any event, I'm just saying that vets like these can be very valuable for depth on a contending team. The Pacers gave up a pick to add a vet who will likely only play about 20 minutes backing up West and playing along side him for short stretches when they go small. That's exactly the sort of role Meer could play as a backup PG, and AA could play an even bigger (starter's) role.

Yeah, but Scola is more durable and has a much better contract than AA, Big Baby or Nelson.

i would agree, but only because he was amnestied last year. That is why his contract is pretty low.

Actually Scola has won the head to head matchup against Davis. I consider it a wash imo.

and yes Davis would litteraly eat Scola for breakfast if he could.

BBD = Above Average Defense

Scola = Very poor defense.

I would take defense over offense.

That's cool, but you said

Which isn't accurate. Also his defense hasn't seemed to bother Scola very much.

I do hope Baby gets traded to a team with a chance. if he gets traded. I hope the man can get back healthy first and foremost, I hope it sounds worse than it is but a guy of his size with non healing injuries is concerning. I think he is a good guy with some intriguing attributes but a little aging will help him.

I guess no news at all on the TPE front? I hope there is some pending deal in place but just don't see it. It may be smarter to let it expire if you think you have players on the roster that can grow into NBA starters. I bet the daily discussions GM's have would be fascinating as hell to hear.

I don't want to tank, but not because "it fosters losing." I want us to be decent this year because if we are the worst team in the league again, it means that our four young players that we are hopeful about (Dipo, Harris, Harkless, and Vooch) must not be very good considering that three of them all got extended NBA minutes last year.

I know I've said this before, but I just don't get how people can be high on our young guys and simultaneously be convinced that we will be one of the 3-5 worst teams in the league. I'm fine with trading the vets for picks and young players, but if Dipo is a contender for ROY and the other three all make small improvements to their games from where they were at the end of last season (Harris flirts with triple-doubles; Vooch is top-3 in rebounding while adding a couple ppg, and Harkless contributes a little more offensively while continuing to develop his defense), then that's a team that picks no better than 8 next year.

QFT! Can't agree more. I understand people's skepticism, but personally I'm looking forward to seeing if our young guys can step it up and a healthy team can be competitive night in and night out.

I think about what Seattle/OKC went through during Durant's first two years when they had Westbrook, Green and Durant and still only won 23 games in Green and Durant's second year. So there isn't an exact correlation between talent and record when you're talking about young players on a team with a bad record. I think this team will struggle against good defenses (whether Jameer is playing PG but particularly if Dipo is playing PG) and I think the team defense (help side, pick and roll, double teams, etc) will also be pretty poor on occasion. However, if these young players aren't going to be worth building around then lets find out now and not hinder that process by playing mediocre vets who certainly can't be centerpieces for a championship team.

I agree 100% with both of you. Thats why I want us to compete too. But the only reason I don't care if we do suck is because it could mean we could draft a pontential (and likely) superstar.

I always root for my teams to win. Always. And, if they suck and end up losing most of the time, then I root for them to put out 100% effort at all times.

The league just wants every team to spend the minimum amount on the roster, they don't care much about how the teams spent it. If stayed under the salary minimum, the difference is just shared between existing players for that season.

Hmmmm. Philly needs salary floor. Hedo and Al Harrington or Hedo and Meer, anyone???

Then, the Magic could use the TPE on a quality player.
