I only caught glimpses of the 2nd and 4th quarter so I can't give many other reasons. Statistically Spain shot the ball well and outrebounded Slovenia 38-26, but they turned the ball over 14 times compared to Slovenia's amazing only 5 TOs :o .

This tournament is very balanced. You're not seeing much blowout wins. And historically **** teams (Finland, Latvia, etc.) are doing well. Teams ranked from 1-8 pre-tournament is a toss up albeit Spain and Greece remain the favorites. Spain has Gasol but they're front court is not that impressive. Their liability is at PF and SF. They have athletic guards but you can't play them all at once and Lull, Rubio, Fernandez are very streaky shooters.

Anyways here's JV's statline:

I still don't understand why they're starting Javtokas. He's not doing anything that can contribute to team success. Yes he plays good defense but he's ineffective offensively.

It's pretty simple. The coach starts players on seniority and not basketball ability. I can't wait till Lithuania gets eliminated and he gets away from this amateur and toxic basketball environment.

Starting Javtokas was understandable against Serbia/Kristic but I was surprised that he started again today. I expect JV to start tomorrow because Latvia doesn't have a wide body... their best player is a tall but lanky PF. LTU will have a huge edge inside so JV can have another solid game.

And honestly, its about minutes played and not starting anyway. Javtokas is a decoy to wear out the other team's best big with his physicality. The guy plays for 5 minutes in the 1st quarter and barely sees the floor again. What counts was that JV was inserted back into the lineup whenever Macedonia went on a run. And JV was on the floor for most of the 4th.

Coaches tend to start ''the defensive'' center. Nothing new here. It is not working, hope to see the change. But being aware of whats going on, I wouldn't be surprised if they start Lavrinovic #7.

Well Valanciunas sucked against Macedonia in friendlies game and Javtokas had good game so Coach probably was more comfortable to start Javtokas. Also Valanciunas and Motiejunas seems to have chemistry together and since Kleiza started at PF instead of Donut Jonas and Donut came of the bench together at same time today and bringed huge energy boost.

Probably been beaten to death but Jonas appears to have lost the signifcant muscle he came into the summer with.

He's def toner but I think it is a little deceiving because he is now playing against bigger bodies.

I like how he looks quicker than he did during SL.

He's obviously going to be quicker when he's skinnier. What we wanted to see was him keep the bulk, then learn how to be quick while at that size. Who are we kidding, we knew he was going to go back to his playing weight from last year after the month long training camp Lithuania had. Hopefully he'll make up for the strength he lost by bringing new "skills" that he learned from his "experience" there.

He's learning a lot. Getting schooled by Kristic is better than dominating SL scrubs, some who won't even play in the D-league.

Anyways will be interesting tomorrow against Latvia. The countries have a history...:

Hopefully won't turn out like this (stolen from a Durden_Tyler post):

JV really locking down that show and go move a la Tim Duncan and Marc Gasol. I keep seeing defenders bite on his fake when he brings the ball behind his head.

Now if he can add a counter to that with a back foot reverse pivot-spin with his left since he's always sizing up from the left elbow extended finishing with a sky hook he'd be impossible to stop. Gasol started to add that counter when they took away his drive and now he's scoring every time similar to that kind of counter. I'm hoping Jonas add that to his game.
Basketball is like poetry in motion, cross the guy to the left, take him back to the right, he's fallin back, then just J right in his face. Then you look at him and say, "What?" - Jesus Shuttlesworth

Indeed he is much quicker than even during friendlies. Which is a bit strange to me. Was he not exerting himself in friendlies ? looks like it now.

Kleiza just can't get it going. He should just stick to open 3s.

With Latvia playing zone it will be easier to win on the perimeter than forcing it inside to JV with a packed paint. PnR works but less iso post ups
