Thank you. We appreciate your comment.
Honestly, he will play for $1,500,000 next season. There is no illusion about his potential/skill. But If he brings same toughness + rebounds as Zaza, I'd be more than happy.

I'm just kidding really I saw him play with Mexico and he looked pretty good. He won the MVP didn't he? But on the other hand then NBA is a lot more difficult then what he was playing.

Hawks fans, you are going to adore Gustavo Ayon. He's a very smart and capable defender who can spell big minutes for Al Horford and Elton Brand. His presence was felt tremendously with Team Mexico during FIBA Americas.

To give you an idea of how good Ayon is, I took Prevention notes. Preventions is a up-and-coming statistic I created that will be used to help determine a player's effectiveness on defense by using points, rebounds, assists, blocks and steals as lost value (or "cash left on the table"). I am still working on how preventions are to be read, but below is a great indicator. I used the FIBA Finals game between Mexico and Puerto Rico to tabulate my findings.

Code: Select all

8 SHOTS CONTESTED
- Prevented 4 2-pointers (8 PTS)
- Prevented 4 3-pointers (12 PTS) (Including a contested shot from JJ Barea in 4th Q)

2 SHOTS BLOCKED
- Prevented 2 2-pointers (4 PTS) (One of which became a Block Of The Game, see below)

11 SCREENS SET
- Prevented 11 steals (11 STL) (Also prevented 3 offensive fouls)

1 STEAL
- Prevented 1 possession (Had it been in the passing lane, Ayon would have also collected an assist prevention)

thanks for the analysis, Wammy. If Ayon plays hard and smart, he'll be a fan favorite here.

But all these advanced stats give me a headache.

I'm still trying to understand OPS in baseball and Quarterback Rating in Football and PER in the NBA.

So...many...made up formulas.

He's active defender. Goes for rebound, can score around basket, has developing mid-range game. I like his hustle energy.

He can make his FTs. Already better than Smoove.

Exactly. It seems that Ferry hopes Hawks can cover lack of true talent with hardworking and quantity.
