Their relationship, however, did not develop. At the time of their meeting, the woman from California was of legal age, Bryant said.
That seems to imply that Andersen really was talking to some 17 yr old (the "woman from California) online but that the time they actually met she was 18. I have no idea why the lawyer would say that when if he said nothing everyone would just assume it was all hoax.
From my understanding there was a 17 yr old girl who Andersen was talking to but then another woman (Chartier, the woman from Canada) kind of sent each of them messages posing as each other.
The woman, identified by the Denver Post as Shelly Lynn Chartier of Easterville, Manitoba, posed as Andersen in electronic conversations with a woman in California. Then she posed as the California woman in electronic conversations with Andersen.
But if they (Andersen and the girl from California) met up in Denver they definitely were talking to each other as well and if Andersen's lawyer is stressing that she was of legal age at the time of the meeting that implies that she wasn't at some point while Andersen was talking to her. Again I just don't know why he would say that when everyone would have just assumed it was all a hoax.
If I am reading this wrong someone intelligent please point out why.
Looks like nothing ended up happening between them but to me its not a big deal anyway. Age of consents are fairly arbitrary and different in different states.
