Upping both their minutes means the Lakers playing a more traditional lineup. It would all be easier if Kaman and Hill could consistently hit 15-18 foot jumpers like Kurt Thomas. In that scenario, D'Antoni is more willing to play two bigs together. He just doesn't like having two bigs who both have to play near the basket.
Gasol doesn't play near the basket. He lounges on the perimeter unless he's guarded by a smaller guy and in that case it's simple. You would post Gasol while running the P and R on the other side of the floor.
Hill doesn't have to shoot. It's the same exact thing as last year's Gasol-Howard offense which worked at the end of the year. Pau would love to have Jordan next to him on defense.
