I really dont know what Chicago's mindset is. For them this is strictly more of a stay competitive type of move more for next season while getting something in return for Luol Deng instead of getting nothing in return if he walks in FA.

So next season they have Rose/Smith/Butler/Boozer/Noah a young prospect in Hardaway Jr and expiring contract in Bargs.

Its obviously a trash offer if Luol wasnt an expiring contract and had more years left in his deal, but his trade value decreases with his impending free agency.

Replace Jr with Shump and they will certainly think about it, since Shump has more value as a player. And less of a headcase. But I wont include Shump in this type of deal. I would much rather trade Jr away to any team and let Shump have more freedom on offense.

Not enough on Knicks end, might have to throw in a pick.

Huh ? I thought this wud be the other way around... You trading a superstar for 2 role players , 1 who is expiring and 1 who is not his contract by a mile and even then its not enough from the knicks ?

They got jimmy Butler, they dont need Shump.

The Knicks arent getting a draft pick for a player on an opt out, they'll have to sweeten the deal to get any team to bite....not like the Bulls would do this deal anyway, especially not with Thibbs as the coach.

Neither player would start on his team, they dont defend like starters should.

And also the Bulls aren't making that deal without a guarantee from Melo is extending with them so the fact that he is in an opt out year is irrelevant.

Melo wouldn't commit right now, CBA kills that but the Bulls are a good spot if he wants to win

He's the missing piece for that team

Rose
Butler
Anthony
Gibson
Noah

Hinrich
Snell
Mirotic

add in a few other pieces here and there

If he oks the trade he is staying, he is not oking a trade to a team he has no interest in staying at. He can force himself wherever he wants to go

If he could force himself somewhere where we get a young talent, a first rounder, an expiring and a role player I'm good.
