They've got Toney Mitchell waiting in the wings and Josh Smith would be best moving to PF (and he's untradeable). Monroe is an attractive trade asset. And Dumars might get fired if his team tanks. The path to the third seed is definitely open to them.

But what could we deal to get him? I don't really see a package that makes sense.

They need a true SF to move Smoove to PF, so a deal around Trevor A would help seem beneficial.

Have no interest in Monroe. He's an utterly incompetent defensive player. He's Al Jefferson 2.0, except he's a way better passer. You don't win in the NBA with bigs who don't defend.

Al Jefferson's teams almost always overachieve though.

We could win with Monroe. He'd actually be an upgrade over Nene.

Nice thinking Ruzious on Biyombo!

What about Porter+Ves+Maynor for Biyombo+Sessions+2014 Portland pick that Bobcats own (will probably be in the 24-30 range).

He's actually the guy I wanted at 6 after Valanciunas got picked. He was supposed to be the next Ben Wallace.

But I wouldn't have high hopes. He's supposedly a completely useless offensive player.

I wanted Bismack too- haven't followed his career, but clearly he hasn't lived up to expectations. Was he really just 18 when he entered the draft?

I wonder if the Bobcats would consider taking Vesely for him- probably not... unless they were trying to tank. Apparently they keep their 2014 1st rounder if it is top 10, otherwise it goes to the Bulls.

I liked him too, offered a trade down scenario that netted him, Singleton, and Faried, and the way it played out, the Wizards could have had all three had they been able to make such a trade. Then they'd still have two not-very-good players, but at least they would also have Faried. More proof of my overall inability to judge talent coming out of college (other than I usually am OK predicting rebounding, which just seems easier to project).

Please no Monroe. I'd rather have Melo. Amd forget Melo, I'd rather have a shot at Durant.

Again, stop thinking we don't need superstars to win championships. We do. Monroe is no superstar. And we have the ability to attract one if we plan correctly. Get us a reasonably priced defensive center first.

I would make that deal in a heartbeat but surely the Pistons can get more than that for Monroe.

Thinking we're going to get Durant is much more of a pipe dream than thinking we can contend with a player like Monroe. Durant is not coming here.

We can't deal a first ( future first or otherwise) this year due to the Gortat trade.

The real question is if you think it'd be easier to dump on Detroit or OKC? The very fact we can have that debate really highlights what a landfill OKC is. No place for a newlywed, much less to raise children.

I'm actually very curious as to what the non-draft crush, non-DC/Georgetown area observer thinks of Monroe. He's not a 7 footer, he doesn't block shots, and he doesn't bang. He's an ok rebounder and has ok hands. I just think he has an "it" that belies his numbers. He's not a max guy but he'll be making low-teen millions for the rest of his career - at least that's what I have him valued at. A 12ish million per year guy. I'd be surprised if he gets even Marc Gasol money.

And this is why I should keep my nose out of the trade thread.

Monroe leading a team to a championship is like asking Odom to lead a team to a championship. 0% chance. If you don't think we can get Durant, which is maybe a 10% chance, then shoot for another superstar. Because Monroe ain't it.

There's a trade that makes too much sense now for the Raptors and us.

Amir Johnson and Kyle Lowry for Nene

Why for Washington:

We get a great backup for Wall without sacrificing long term cap. Amir is a guy who can work hard for us for a new contract (expires in two years) and he's shown himself to be good on the glass (less so this year) and a mobile and long defender. As well we won't have to worry about having our starting PF be a 30 minute and 60 games a year kind of guy over the next two seasons.

Why for Toronto:

Tank reasons. It's a perfect tank move. You get Nene who seems like a great vet who can "teach the team how to win" while also missing a bunch of games. Also it allows a recent acquisition in Vasquez to start at the 1 without Toronto being in a position where they feel like they are forced to extend and probably overpay Lowry.

Oh yea, and they become bad enough to get a likely all-star talent in one of Smart, Wiggins, Parker.

I think we would have to give up more. Maybe take on some more salary.

Johnson, Fields, Lowry and Novak for Nene, Ariza, Maynor

Wall/Lowry
Beal/Webster
Webster/Porter/Fields
Johnson/Novak
Gortat/Johnson

Done and done. ^^^

But Toronto would never do this. Their GM is much smarter than ours.

Masai is a great GM. He just traded Gay for Salmons (expiring), Hayes (expires just as Rudy does), Vasquez (potential PG who they can resign as a stopgap), and Patterson (decent stretch big).

^I don't think they take on Nene, but expirings for Johnson/Lowry might be worth exploring to help the bench.

Dang, wish we could have got Vasquez out of that deal... perfect 10=15 minute PG.

They have 5 PGs now with Kyle Lowry, D.J. Augustin, Dwight Buycks, Julyan Stone and Vasquez

Might be tough to get the pick out of them. We could always add the aforementioned Maynor+expiring for Novak to the mix to give them a bit more savings. Definitely worth a try IMO.
