This isn't about whether I or anyone else want Mirotic (which I don't, particularly, but might when it's his time to actually be drafted next year).
Mirotic was drafted
three years ago. Are you arguing that insfo doesn't have a right to Ricky Rubio? The Rubio rule was put in place to allow a European play to be held in FFDL until they come state side. It was not put in place to lock out certain players.
I don't understand what sort of unfair advantage you believe I am getting. I am taking a risk on a player in Europe just like insfo did. I will have to wait five games to move him to the IL, I will have to drop a player if I want to hold him past the cut down date. All things insfo was required to do.
Could you have drafted Mirotic in this years draft? I think what you are saying is yes.
As I understand the rules, and I think this is where we disagree, any player who could be drafted and is not, becomes a free agent and can be picked up during the season. If the rule had been posted that European players can not be picked up as free agents I would have drafted him earlier.
Despite believing that I have no requirement to do so, I have given up a draft pick to add him. This means I am not getting something for nothing. Now, you will argue that draft picks expire when the waiver wire is opened up when time expires on the last pick. That makes perfect sense if all players are free agents at that point. But if you believe that certain players can only be added with a draft pick then it would make sense that a late pick can be used on one of those players. If an hour late East wanted to use his pick would you let him?
We have a rule that when a pick is made another player has to be dropped if the manager does not have room on their roster. However, on several occasions that rule was not enforced. You never made a complaint about that. That rule is far clearer than selecting foreign players as free agents. Not dropping a player during the draft can actually have a greater impact on the league if the next person to draft would be interested in picking up that player. It could have a ripple effect through the entire draft.
