I agree Houston wouldn't want Lowry because of McHale, but I think they could find a buyer to help this deal happen.

For Toronto, I think that's probably as good as it gets. Keep in mind Lowry is a half-year rental.
I think Lamb is a nice piece for a rebuilding team. Swapping Amir for Perkins means we also get drastically worse. Also, getting Lamb means Derozan is now expendable as well.

Here's what your left with:

Vasquez/Byucks
Lamb/Derozan/Salmons
Ross/Fields
Patterson/Novak
JV/Perkins

This team wins >20 games, has tremendous cap flexibility to sign back any of the young starters we like, and allows us to move Derozan for a lottery pick or young player. If you still think it's lopsided, picks/cash can always be negotiated as well.

Sorry, but Ujiri isn't going to do things to "get dramatically worse" unless he gets offsets like picks. Giving away talent for nothing has never been his modus operandi. He found the one buyer for Gay that gave us something approaching current value, especially when you view Salmons contract like a $8 or 9 million trade exception that could be bartered for picks. Please try to understand this: Teams can get worse in W-L terms without being stupid about how they do it. Any moron can give away talent without compensation. Getting picks or prospects that cushion the effect of the tank and move the rebuild along faster is where real GMs leave REALGMers behind. If you wanted to take Perkins to get Lamb, you give OKC Fields, not Amir.

You cannot trade 1st round picks in successive years. Lakers already traded their 2015 1st rounder so cannot trade the 2014:

Can't do that. Sorry. Can't trade firsts in consecutive years unless you have multiple firsts in one of the two years. LA does not.

In any case, the Lakers have traded their firsts in 2015 and 2017, and hence can't trade any first round pick of theirs until you're collecting your pension. Not unless they acquire another team's first round pick in 2015 or 2017.

None of those guys have picks except for chicago. Which are reluctant to trade.

Chicago deal - too rich for Chicago and who do they send to make salaries equal?
Indiana - don't see their interest, and who is the incoming salary
NYK - Hard to see the mechanics working here, but not totally impossible
Los Angeles - Can't trade their pick.

One interested party - my assumption - is Memphis, if they found a taker for Ed Davis. Ed can't be traded back to us until Feb. 1, and Memphis needs help now. Bayless is a dreadful backup, and Memphis can play Conley and Lowry together for stretches. Unfortunately, Memphis has no picks and Quincy Poindexter is out for the year.

The best deal I've seen for Lowry on the trade board is:

Lowry to Minny

JJ Barea to Dallas

VC + Larkin to Toronto

...I'd try to squeeze Shabazz out of Minny too, or a pick from either.

Dallas isn't giving up that for Barea.... maybe just Larkin, which I'd gladly take back for Lowry at this point

Minnesota perspective; doesn't make sense. What's the point of losing young talent on their rookie contracts for a rental in Lowry who'll likely demand a hefty pay rise in the offseason

Never thought I would say this--but I wouldn't. I don't think D-Rose will ever go back to his old self unfortunately

I do it in a heartbeat. Helps the tank imensely to solidify a top pick for this season plus he's the youngest MVP in league history and if he even gets close to old form it's worth the risk. Worst case scenario we have his salary tied up in an injured player and that will propel the turbo tank even more

How many years do you want to tank for man?

Looks like most of the posters here want to tank for 3+ seasons. That's stupid IMO.

You want to build a winning culture. You tank this year and hope to land a top 3 pick.

Once you have that; you build around him, Demar and JV and use your capspace to land a solid PG and surround with veterans

I don't think trading an injured player is legal. Is it?
