He had two very good seasons back to back at ages 25 and 26. If you don't think his 2005 season was impressive I don't know what to tell you. His OPS ranked 6th in all of baseball amongst SS's that year (2nd in the NL). Had he put those numbers up in CF, only 2 players in baseball had a higher number at the position (Edmunds and A. Jones).

In 2006, he had the 3rd highest OPS amongst SS's behind Guillen and Jeter. He would have ranked 3rd in CF behind Beltran and Wells.

Is he struggling this year? He is. But he showed enough in 2 seasons and over 1000 ABs to think he's slumping and probably struggling at the plate while learning a very tough position. His numbers will come around and people won't have anything to complain about just as Gwynn's numbers will continue to plummet after a hot 30 AB's to start the season.

What is Gwynn's track record? So far in the Majors he's hit .284 with a .325 OBP and a .359 SLG. Counsell's career OPS is 33 points higher than Gwynn's.

Gwynn had a great 32 AB's to start the year, hitting .407 over that time. Since then, he's put up these numbers:

46 ABs
.239 BA
.286 OBP
.261 SLG (he has 1 2B)

I'd hit Gwynn third followed by Counsell with Damian Miller hitting 5th. Then the pitcher.

It was more for Hall to get his bat going because he will see good pitches batting in front of Fielder. Gwynn I would put at 7 when he is in or leadoff if Hart is off.

The reason I like gwynn is that he is far and away the best CF we have. he is far and away the best bunter we have. He is probably the best base runner we have. He has the kind of attributes you want in a leadoff guy. That's not taking anything away from sun glasses at night. I would have him in as well.
