Pretty much unless LeBron goes on his customary tear around this time now. Durant was unreal tonight. Still half a season to go, never know what happens.

I don't think he has it locked up yet. He's almost lapping the field right now, but if OKC loses to Miami, its all even again. A lot will depend on that game I think.

True, true. The OKC-Miami games will be important. I will correct myself. I don't think he has it locked up but he's pulling away now.

Durant has huge arms. This always helped him to get FTs and always will. LeBron gets more and ones, this always will drag his FT/FGA and his raw FT numbers down. NBA need to count seriously the stat for Fouls Drawn. A lot of myths would fall to earth.

Well I don't know what winisking means, I never said he's passed him as a player yet, but if he does these next 2-3 years it won't be unexpected. Durants a damn fine player and Lebron has most likely peaked statistically. Lebrons best basketball from this point on well see in the playoffs. He's going to go 80 something percent in most RS from here on out and eventually hell decline and kd will be 27-28 at his peak and will be better than him for a few seasons. Then the same cycle will happen to kd with the next guy in line who IMO will be Anthony Davis. He's not better than Lebron right now but he is the clear MVP front runner and is having the best season individually this season.

When is OKC Miami playing this season? If there's a a good enough gap between their last game and the end of the season,Durant will have time to make up for it even if Lebron makes him his son again.

The first game OKC won't have Westbrook. That game will be irrelevant if Lebron wins, won't hurt Durant at all. If Durant wins that game though, MVP race is over 100%

Hell have two months after feb 20th even if Lebron out duels him again. As I've said all season and even off season. This will be Durant year. His case was never stronger. I'm sorry when a guy comes number 2 to the same guy in multiple years that's got to eat away at you.

In b4 westbrook is holding okc back, cost them the finals in 2012 and shoukd be traded immediately.

But seriously kevin durants scoring has been great this year, only question is how long can he sustain this level of production and who wins the head to head match ups with lebron. LeBron would have to shut him down and probably be +5 in the standings which isnt a given

Yeah, Durant is certainly playing with more energy and passion than LeBron right now and I see both the sides of the coin here. This is Durant's MVP to lose but I am not counting LeBron out until he actually loses it. KD is ahead of LeBron though so LeBron will need to stop coasting now.

This will be the year Kevin Durant wins MVP. The impact of Westbrook's injury cannot be understated.

But it would be a great story if Lebron came back with a monster second half of the season to win his 5th MVP. It's a necessary milestone in his quest to be the GOAT. MJ and Russell have five MVPs. Kareem holds the record with six. Breaking Kareem's record would be a incredible feat, and if he adds say two more rings... that's gotta be Top 5 all time at least.

So I'll be rooting for Lebron

Pretty sure Durant is going to win this year's MVP. What exactly has Lebron and the Heat done to capture voter attention? They'll have a worse record than last year, likely may finish second in their conference (not to mention behind a few WC opponents), and there's no win-streak (or weird 7 games with >70% FG or whatever). Lebron isn't matching last year's averages (and is near career lows in several others) in everything but 3P% and FG%. Meanwhile, he visibly seems to be coasting while the Heat are getting blown out by losing NBA teams. There's just no way I can see voters overlooking Durant's monster season so far and the Westbrook "narrative" while Lebron is putting out whatever it is he's putting out.

I just have a feeling Durant will win MVP but LeBron will win FMVP and solidify himself as the best pkayer in the league but thats really just the random attempt at predicting the future that I have lol.

Heat should have a better win/loss record than all the west teams considering all things equal, the weak east should allow that. Heat couldn't get away with this coasting in the west. Lebron would definitely have to shoot more

and thats the thing of it, lebron will still be the best player in the nba but he just wont be this years mvp. Its crazy how people just ignore the history of this award.

The nba mvp is just like the coach of the year award, voters get tired of giving it to the the best player or coach "every" year.

Also look for pg to get it if okc's record falls off. Record is huge with the mvp.

The thing that's impressive about Durant's 54 point game is that he did it in a back-to-back game against a playoff team at home against Golden State after dropping 36 points the night before against another playoff team on the road in Houston

You've got to give that kid props, whether you love him or hate him. KD has been on a serious tear lately. He's averaging 36.8 Pts on 48% shooting, 6.5 Reb, 5.5 Ast over his last 10 games

it won't - no one expects an okc team without westbrook to beat miami in miami... you are kidding yourself if you think it will ruin his mvp chances. However, KD still needs to have a decent game individually. As long as his stats are comparable to lebron's that game, the outcome wont matter
