He was more of a 4 in ATL.
Not sure I get hung up on his shooting % -- Melo is Mr Inefficient and Melo does't pass, rebound, defend or block shots like J=Smith. What are Melo's and J-Smiths career playoff records? Not sure but in my opinion Melo has had more talent around him than Smith --- thru out his career.
Everyone with a brain could see the Smith fit in Detroit wouldn't be good because you've got 3 BIGS who are all questionable shooters.
Josh Smith at $14M better for me than Melo at $25M
Ur basically saying smith is a better all around player in a whole then Carmelo
No - I'm saying other than scoring Smith is the better all-around player than Melo.
My primary point on Smith is that his contract would only have 3 more years at $13.5M per -- with Melo you are talking $25M at 5 years. In that comparison I will take Josh Smith for 3 years and $13.5M every time.
In my view of basketball - there are other things that are important other than scoring the ball. In fact both players shoot 46% from 2P% for their career -- much of Melo's perceived scoring advantage is based on the volume of shots he puts up.
Not here to knock Melo --- just saying J-Smith is someone I would consider taking a run at given the sorry state of this team and I don't believe they have the patience to sit and wait another year (of Melos prime) to get to the summer of 2015.
