If you think about, Otto is sort of going to end up being our 2014 first round pick. Because his season this year was basically lost, it feels more like we didn't have a 2013 pick. With a full season of adjusting to NBA travel, schedule, etc, and a healthy offseason of work, I expect Otto to hit the ground running next year.

Otto's just in a tough situation right now. The strength of Otto that's consistently touted is he plays a "high IQ" game. How can a 20 yr old ROOKIE who missed training camp and preseason, come into the NBA after just 2 years of college ball, a new team and teammates, a new coach and system, a new league where he can be on the same court playing against vets who have 10+ yrs of experience in the league, play a "high IQ" game ???? It's just not realistic.

I am certainly disappointed in his season like everyone. But we just need some patience here. I still think he's gonna be a good player, but it probably won't be until his 3rd year. I do think he needs to get on the court. Maybe give Webster more run at the 2 to open up some minutes at SF. But Otto needs a strong offseason on the practice court and in the weight room. Next season will in essence be his rookie year, possibly with Ariza removed from the picture. After an actual season on the court next year, following year (year 3) would basically like where Beal is this year in his development. Hopefully by then he'll be laying all our concerns to rest.

Yeah.. I excepted this is the reality for Otto going into the AS break. If he didn't play before then, he wasn't going to play after it.

Otto Porter was drafted for the same reasons that have you believing he's "awful". Porter isn't the type of player to force things, but rather allow things to develop for him naturally. So an un-spectacular showing from Porter might look worse than one from Beal who has somewhat of a green light to shoot, despite struggling from within the three point line.

Otto Porter isn't getting more playing time simply because he has two more experienced players on the roster who play the same position that he does.

Props to you guys for watching that blowout closely enough to draw any conclusions. I know I couldn't.

Because of how he plays (and thrives), the only way to judge him is when he gets consistent, meaningful minutes. I don' think Webster is fully healthy. I'd give him some time off while giving Porter some minutes.

Until we see him consistently, feel free to make judgments about some useless minutes. I know you will.

You mean the Steve Blake that was a second round pick and is still in the league 10 years later? A guy Kobe was upset to see traded?

Otto may turn out to be a bust, but anyone who watched him in college knows he earned his draft slot.

Wroten is pretty good at getting by his man- and it was in garbage time so there really wasn't much team defense. Porter still hasn't hit a 3 pointer this season - he still needs to work on that part of his game. But I thought the behind the back move was still impressive. But I think we agree that Porter still has a long way to go.

I don't think he is a bust. Just not ready to contribute at a level needed by the team at this point in time. He has a lot of things to do to be NBA ready. Much like is done with most 1st year players who are very green but still show promise, they need to bring him in slow. I think he came out a year too early and would have benefited from his college senior year from a basketball perspective. Next year will be when we can really judge what we have in him. I see Jewon Howard upside.

The Lakers just sent Xavier Henry to the D-League to play two games, just two. I don't understand why the Wizards don't send Porter to their D-League affiliate for 3 or 4 games just so-that he can play some ball and work with the coaches on his game. Very frustrating.
